The recall is to rectify an improperly fitted oil line and for motorcycles manufactured between May 9 and July 2, 2017.

2017 Harley Davidson

Harley-Davidson has begun voluntary recalls of a select batch of Touring motorcycles sold in the US for a potential fitment issue. The bikes are being recalled for an incorrectly fitted clamp on the engine oil cooler line. There have been instances of the oil line coming off and spewing oil on the rear wheel, causing it to slip.

The affected bikes in the US include the 2017 Touring models: The Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Police Electra Glide, Police Road King, Road King, Road King Special, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Road Glide and Road Glide Special. Of these, the Road King, Street Glide Special, and Road Glide Special are sold in India.

While 46,000 of the 57,000 motorcycles recalled were sold in the United States, rest of the bikes were shipped worldwide, including India. A formal recall for these bikes is expected soon. The recall will be a simple affair where the bike would be inspected and the clamp properly fitted.

We are waiting for a formal statement from Harley Davidson India regarding this. Meanwhile, customers who have purchased a Road King, Street Glide Special, and Road Glide Special after July should contact their local dealership to see if their bikes are among the ones affected. Stay tuned for more updates.
