The humble Honda Super Cub has received a stunning minimalistic cafe racer-like makeover

The Honda Super Cub has been in continuous production all the way since 1958 and has tallied over 100 million unit sales worldwide. That shows the humble underbone motorcycle’s popularity. In fact, this little runabout was responsible for the famous tagline, “You meet the nicest people on a Honda”. Now, a Taiwanese student has given the Super Cub an incredibly minimalistic yet beautifully classic cafe racer-like makeover.

Industrial design student Suhann, the creator of this custom Honda, drew inspiration from vintage seaplanes. He used a Honda Super Cub 90 as the base model and as you can see, the underbone frame has been replaced with a completely new custom trellis double cradle frame. In fact, the only stock parts are the wheels and the engine. The 89.5cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine churns out 8.11PS, if you’re interested.

The aeronautical inspiration is evident on the fuselage-like bodywork too. It is made out of hand-formed aluminium, held together by rivets. The fuel tank is located below the seat and is shaped like a drop tank that is usually used in war planes. The motorcycle uses a gaitered telescopic fork up front and an aftermarket monoshock at the rear. Brakes include drum units on both ends. The ergonomics is aggressive thanks to the low slung handlebars and custom rear-set footpegs.

Overall, this is one of the finest custom creations based on an underbone motorcycle we’ve seen so far. And it is set to get even better as the designer plans to work a bit more on the bike and add some brass and copper elements to make it even better looking.
