Maxi-scooters are no longer a niche in India. What started with the Suzuki Burgman Street has now evolved into a proper premium scooter segment, with the Yamaha Aerox 155 proving that there's strong demand for performance-oriented scooters and the Hero Xoom 160 bringing adventure-inspired styling into the mix. Looking to capitalise on this growing trend, Honda has unveiled the ADV 160 in India. While the scooter has been on sale in international markets for some time now, it is finally set to make its way to Indian roads in the coming months.

The Honda ADV160

Honda's global lineup includes several maxi-scooters, but India only received the brand's flagship X-ADV with a price tag that would blow one’s socks off. In that sense, the ADV160 is a far more sensible proposition for India.

Powering the ADV160 is a 160cc liquid-cooled engine, placing it in direct contention with other premium scooters in the segment. While we don’t have the exact specs as to how much power the scooter will actually make, expect it to be similar to the Hero Xoom 160. However, one of its biggest talking points is its E85 compatibility, making it India's first scooter capable of running on petrol blended with up to 85 percent ethanol. As the government continues pushing higher ethanol blends, this could make the ADV160 one of the more future-ready offerings in its class.

Honda has equipped the scooter with an 8.1-litre fuel tank (yes, that’s massive!) and a 27-litre under-seat storage compartment. These figures should make it well suited for both daily commuting and longer weekend rides.

Being manufactured in India should also allow Honda to price the ADV160 competitively against its rivals. Honda is expected to launch the ADV160 in September 2026, with prices likely to start from around Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom).

Unlike the X-ADV, which was always destined to remain a halo product, the ADV160 has the potential to become a volume seller. If Honda manages to hit the expected Rs 1.6 lakh price point, the ADV160 could give the Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and even the Suzuki Burgman Street something serious to worry about. After years of watching Honda's adventure scooters from afar, Indian enthusiasts may finally have one that's within reach.
