You know the results are going to be astounding when a Formula 1 team and a supercar manufacturer team up to make a hypercar. Well, they are indeed! The blokes from Aston Martin and Red Bull’s Formula 1 team have revealed what they call the AM-RB 001 hypercar concept. The car will translate into a road-going car, while retaining 80-90 to per cent of the concept’s elements.
‘The blokes’, however, are none other than Adrian Newey, Red Bull F1’s chief technical officer, who specialises in F1 car’s engines and exterior designs; Marek Reichman, currently heading Aston Martin's design studio; and David King, again from Aston Martin.
So, these three have made something that looks really out of the box and utterly futuristic. It’s so futuristic that it looks almost unreal to qualify as any sort of road car. But it would be available in both road-going and track-only versions. However, you can be sure that they would be very, very rare. In fact, the makers of the AM-RB would restrict the units to a number as low as 99 to 150 tops. You have more chances of seeing an alien ship than one of these beauties in person! Moreover, deliveries of the car are expected to begin only till 2018.
The car will draw power from a high-revving, naturally aspirated V12 motor whose performance figures are not known. And, for your information, it’s not an Aston Martin V12, but a bespoke unit made only for this car. It doesn’t end here. Like the Koenigsegg One:1, the AM-RB will also feature a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. What’s that? It means that the engine has one horsepower for every kilo of the car. This will certainly be achieved by the use of a carbon fibre structure and member components.
The AM-RB also benefits heavily from its aerodynamics, which is acutely concentrated on the underside of the car. Whereas, the top portion is a smooth surface with bubbles of wheel arches, and the passenger compartment -- which will seat two.
A few more noteworthy elements are the gaps visible from the sides, the sweet aerofoils, the active rear wing, and the sheer beauty of the design are nothing like anything, are they?
We eagerly wait for more details of the car to emerge. Until then, keep visiting!
