Ducati has launched the DesertX Discovery in India and it sits in between the standard variant and the Rally variant in the DesertX lineup. The motorcycle gets additional accessories over the standard variant which makes it more touring friendly though costs for a premium.

What’s new?

The Ducati DesertX Discovery gets a brand new paint scheme: Thrilling Black/Ducati Red. The paint scheme has body panels painted red and black colours with white highlights to accentuate the body lines of the DesertX Discovery.  

The DesertX Discovery gets protective accessories like reinforced hand guards, an engine guard with coolant pump protection, a reinforced sump guard, and a radiator grill. The taller windscreen on this variant should make touring more comfortable. The centre-stand will make it easy to park the bike on uneven surfaces.

The console on this variant supports turn-by-turn navigation but it is subscription based. Good news is that the cost of a 5-year subscription is included in the ex-showroom price.

What’s Unchanged?

The motorcycle shares the same design and remains mechanically unchanged. It continues to be powered by a 937cc L-Twin, liquid-cooled engine which makes 110PS at 9,250 rpm and 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm, which is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter. 

It gets a KYB inverted telescopic fork and a KYB monoshock (both fully adjustable). Braking is handled by twin 320mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear mounted on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear cross-spoked tubeless wheels. The motorcycle has a fuel tank capacity of 21 litres and weighs in at 210kg kerb.

The standard features that are the same as the lower variant include a 5-inch TFT display which supports smartphone connectivity via Ducati’s application and allows for turn-by-turn navigation, call & SMS alerts, and music control. 

The bike has 6 riding modes: Touring, Sport, Wet, Urban, Enduro, and Rally. Each mode can be customized for engine maps, throttle response, and ABS and traction control intervention levels. The bike gets 3 levels of cornering ABS, wheelie control, engine braking control, cruise control, self-cancelling indicators, a steering damper, a USB charging port, and much more.

Price and Rivals

The Ducati DesertX Discovery sits right in between the standard variant and the Rally variant. It commands a premium of Rs 3,45,000 over the base variant.
