Back in 2001, when Bajaj Pulsar first hit Indian roads, it arrived as a duo: the Pulsar 150 and the Pulsar 180. While the 150 carried the torch forward all these years, the 180 quietly faded away about four years ago. Now though, it’s back, and boy, does it look good! The bike is available in a single, fully specced variant priced at Rs 1,22,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi), and here’s all you need to know about it:

Design: Familiar Yet Fresh

Visually, the new Bajaj Pulsar 180 sticks to its roots. It retains that unmistakable Pulsar silhouette with a muscular fuel tank and a slim tail section that still feels sporty even today. Bajaj has added a modern touch with an LED headlight and LED indicators, similar to what we’ve seen on the Bajaj Pulsar 150. Another notable change is the switch to a single-piece seat, replacing the older split-seat setup, although the split grab rails have been retained.

The overall design isn’t in your face, but that’s the point! It stays true to the original while blending in neatly with the current Pulsar lineup. Among the five colour options: Black Gold, Black Blue, Black Grey, Black Red and White, it’s the Black Gold that really stands out with its premium appeal.

Engine: Same Punch, Slightly More Pull

Powering the bike is a 178.61cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 17PS at 8,500rpm and 15Nm at 6,500rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. While the power figure remains unchanged, Bajaj has managed to extract a slight bump in torque (0.78Nm to be precise). It’s not a radical upgrade, but one that should make a slight difference.

Underpinnings: Tried And Tested Setup

Under the skin, the Pulsar 180 continues with a proven setup. It uses a telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers. Braking duties are handled by discs at both ends, backed by single-channel ABS for added safety. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in tubeless tyres, with a ground clearance of 165mm, a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres and a kerb weight of 156kg.

Features: Modern Touches, Some Misses

In terms of features, Bajaj has brought the Pulsar 180 up to speed with the times. It gets an LCD console, similar to other Bajaj bikes, with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing for call and SMS alerts. However, it still misses out on turn-by-turn navigation, which might disappoint some riders. 

Rivals: A Segment Of Its Own

As for competition, the Pulsar 180 doesn’t really have much to worry about. The only real rivals in this niche are the Honda Hornet 2.0 and the TVS Apache RTR 180, making this a rather unique segment even today.

All things considered, the return of the Pulsar 180 feels more like the revival of an icon than just another launch. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to. It simply brings back a well-loved formula with just enough modern touches to stay relevant.
