The past couple of months have surely belonged to streetfighters. Be it the lovely Triumph Speed 400, aggressive KTM 390 Duke or peppy TVS Apache RTR 310, we got quite some lovely streetfighters in recent months. And now, going up the cubic capacity, it’s BMW that’s given us two sharp and angry streetfighters, the BMW M 1000 R and M 1000 R Competition, and god do they look hot!

And of course you want to know about its engine. Well, the M 1000 R doesn’t disappoint here. The 999cc inline-four mill makes an astronomical 212PS at 14,500rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm. And with that, it joins the super exclusive ‘200PS hypernakeds’ club. In fact, that’s 4PS more than the standard Ducati Streetfighter V4, which itself is a wild, wild bike. The top speed, meanwhile, stands at 280kmph, which again, is very impressive for a bike without fairing.

And helping you harness all that firepower is the endless list of electronics: engine braking control, traction control, wheelie control, launch control… you name it, the bike has it all to ensure you don’t kill yourself while riding it.

The elephant in the room is OBVIOUSLY its price. I mean it’s a BMW bike AND a CBU (Completely Built Unit). So the Rs 33 lakh ex-showroom price (Rs 38 lakh for the Competition variant) tag might be eye-watering, but is it surprising? Not really. The price tag might sound unreasonable but put a couple of hot laps around a race track on the M 1000 R and suddenly the price tag might start to make a little sense; not to your mind, but to your heart. But then that’s what these litre-class hyper nakeds have always been about: the incredible riding experience.
