Yamaha XSR155 India Launch Likely on Nov 11, 2025: Check Expected Price, Features, Rivals And Other Details

Quick Read:

  • Looks similar to the international-spec version barring a few changes

  • Yamaha might launch the bike next month

  • Will likely slot between the MT-15 and the R15

The iconic Yamaha RX100 may not be making a comeback just yet, but enthusiasts won’t be left disappointed. Yamaha is finally bringing the XSR155 to India, with the retro-modern roadster spotted testing on our roads. Interestingly, Yamaha recently sent out a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for November 11, and we reckon it might just be for the launch of the Yamaha XSR155 in India. Let’s have a look at what the spy shots reveal:

First Spy Shots Surface

The camouflaged test mule of the Yamaha XSR155 confirms what fans had long hoped for – a stylish neo-retro motorcycle built on the proven R15 and MT-15 platform. Signature XSR design cues such as the round LED headlight, upright riding posture, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and flat seat are all visible despite the wraps. The India-spec bike, however, gets different alloy wheel designs and possibly different tyres, likely sourced from MRF, to better tackle our infamous road conditions. Also, the 17-inch alloys look the same as the ones on the India-spec MT-15. By sharing components, Yamaha should be able to keep the costs competitive as well.

Just like the other two bikes built on the same platform, the XSR155 is equipped with an inverted telescopic fork, mono-shock and will get dual-channel ABS. The bike comes with a circular LCD instrument console. While it may skip advanced features like Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, Yamaha is expected to sweeten the deal with a long list of official accessories. Yamaha offers goodies such as radiator covers, tank pads, side panels, oil caps, and more in Indonesia, so expect a similar accessory list for the Indian market as well.

Positioning, Pricing And Rivals

Interestingly, the Yamaha XSR 155 was first launched in the south-east Asian markets, way back in 2019. While Indian enthusiasts immediately fell head over heels in love with it, Yamaha kept it a distant dream. Instead, to many Yamaha fan boys’ dismay, it launched the FZ-X, a retro bike based on the FZ platform. Don’t get us wrong, the FZ-X does what it’s meant to be - a frugal, retro looking commuter. But it simply didn’t have the pizzazz that the XSR promised - a tasteful neo-retro design with a powerful, advanced liquid-cooled engine. It seems like Yamaha is finally giving us what we always craved for.

In Indonesia, the XSR155 is priced lower than the MT-15, which raises hopes that Yamaha might adopt a similar strategy here. In India, the XSR155 is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This is as per the new GST 2.0 norms that will be enforced from September 22, 2025. Here’s our opinion on the GST 2.0.

Once launched, the Yamaha XSR155 will lock horns with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, which is currently priced between Rs 1.49 lakh and Rs 1.81 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). The Hunter’s sales figures have already proven there’s a strong demand for an affordable retro-styled bike, and the XSR155 could emerge as a solid alternative for those who want Yamaha’s trademark Japanese engineering with a dash of vintage appeal.

Indonesia-spec Yamaha XSR155

The XSR155 will also have the advantage of being the only retro bike in the 150-160cc space with a liquid-cooled engine. If the MT-15 appeals to a much wider audience than the R15 thanks to its relatively easier-going ergos, the XSR155 stands to appeal to an even wider customer base as its matured design will be liked by riders of all ages, not to mention the comfortable ergonomics that are ideal for commutes as well as weekend rides. Looks like Yamaha has a huge potential on its hands with the upcoming XSR155. We just hope that the bike comes with the iconic “Speed Block” livery!
