The Yamaha XSR155 is the Japanese brand’s smallest neo-retro motorcycle currently on sale in the Asian market. In our series: ‘Bikes We’d Like To See In India’, we explore all the possible reasons as to why it makes sense for Yamaha to launch this retro bike here. If Yamaha indeed does launch it in India, it is likely to command a price of around Rs 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it sits bang in between the more affordable Yamaha MT-15 and the premium track tamer, the Yamaha R15 V3.0.
The motorcycle is laden with modern features like an all-LED lighting system, fully digital instrument cluster, premium finishes on the bodywork and more importantly, Variable Valve Actuation technology in the engine. It helps in maintaining a balance between low-end grunt and top-end drive. The 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine produces 17PS and 13.7Nm. It works alongside a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. Underpinnings in the bike sold abroad include inverted front fork, linked monoshock, aluminium swingarm and disc brake on both ends. Expect the India-spec bike to pack a traditional telescopic front fork and a box-section swingarm to keep the costs competitive. It is also likely to get a dual-channel ABS as standard here.
