2025 Tata Altroz Facelift Review: Close To Perfection?

The 2025 Tata Altroz facelift is here with a sharper face, more features, and a new variant line-up that can put a buffet to shame. There’s a DCT, an AMT, a diesel, CNG, flush door handles, dual 10.25-inch screens, 6 airbags as standard, and even 65 W USB-C charging front and back.
But once the initial glitter fades, there are still a few things that could’ve made the Altroz truly alt-rock in this band of premium hatchbacks.
Here’s what Tata’s newest hatch still doesn’t offer:
Tata Motors has retained the 1.5-litre diesel engine, hooray for torque and efficiency junkies (Yours truly is amongst the first ones), but it still doesn’t get an automatic transmission.
This engine, albeit in its more powerful 118 PS tune, is also paired with an AMT and DCA gearbox in the Nexon and the Curvv, so why not here?
In 2025, that's a noticeable gap. The AMT and DCA are restricted to petrol only, so if you want the smoothness of an automatic with diesel economy, you will have to look elsewhere or keep rowing your stick...
The Tiago and Tigor iCNG already offer CNG with AMT. So it's not like Tata doesn’t have the tech ready. But oddly enough, the Altroz iCNG still comes only with a manual gearbox.
Given that it's meant to be a premium hatchback, this omission feels like a big “almost-there.” The twin-cylinder boot-saving CNG tech is brilliant, but why make people work for fuel savings in traffic?
Plonking in the AMT in the Altroz CNG would also have given the Altroz an upper hand over its CNG rivals, which get a manual transmission only.
The Altroz Racer, which was launched almost 6 months ago, did offer ventilated front seats. Yet, this feature didn’t make it to the more comfort-focused Altroz facelift.
Strange, because Tata did focus on lounge-like comfort in this update. With all the emphasis on executive seating and thigh support, some actual cooling for your back would have been a cool deal, especially in a tropical country where summer lasts about 8 months!
The 10.25-inch twin screens are great, especially the instrument cluster that shows maps as well. But a proper heads-up display? Not here.
With the Baleno and Glanza offering a clear windshield projection of vital info, it’s something we wish Tata had considered. After all, if the Altroz wants to be a tech leader, projecting info on the glass seems like the next coolest-looking step.
A powered driver seat isn't just a luxury move anymore, it’s quickly becoming a feature that defines top-spec trims. With the facelifted Altroz boasting ambient lighting, flush door handles, and an illuminated steering wheel, powered seats would have completed the “feel special” checklist.
Right now, it’s a manual affair.
The 2025 Tata Altroz, in its facelifted avatar, makes it one of the most well-rounded packages in the premium hatchback space, no doubt. It brings a bold new design, essential safety upgrades, more convenience tech, and the most diverse powertrain spread in the segment.
But for all the features it adds, a few omissions prevent it from being the absolute benchmark.
Would these missing bits be deal-breakers? Probably not for most.
But would they have made the Altroz truly unbeatable? Absolutely.
