With reckless drivers increasing, and the vehicles on our roads growing in number, safety has become a topic of utmost concern. To keep you safe, most carmakers are committed to offering vehicles that can keep you protected in various situations. Tata is one such automaker that has a lineup of 5-star rated cars, and the popular Indian carmaker recently introduced the Altroz facelift on our shores.
In this article, we take you through all the safety features of the Altroz, and provide you with some deep insights about its safety. So, if you are in the market looking for a hatchback that doesn’t take the safety aspect lightly then you have come to the right place!
The Altroz facelift is not only well-equipped in terms of convenience and feel-good features, but also offers a safety package which will keep you satisfied. The good thing is that the hatchback boasts multiple safety features right from the base variant itself. This includes features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, 3-point seatbelts, and rear parking sensors as standard right from the base model.
From the Pure variant onwards, you get more amenities like a reverse parking camera which gets upgraded to a 360-degree camera as you climb up the variants ladder. Furthermore, you get a rear defogger, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, a rear wiper with washer and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The one-below-top Accomplished S packs all the safety features of the Altroz.
The Altroz is among the best equipped hatchback in the segment, and even offers more or better safety equipment than its rivals. Over its key rival, the Maruti Baleno, it gets a tyre pressure monitoring system and while Baleno offers 6 airbags only with higher variants, the Altroz gets them as standard fitment.
Over the popular Hyundai i20, the Altroz boasts a 360-degree camera which provides more views than the i20’s reverse parking camera that only shows you what’s behind. So if you live in an area with tight parking spaces, or need more assistance in traffic conditions or narrow roads, then the Altroz’s 360-degree camera might be a useful feature for you.
Features are not the only factor in determining the safety of a car, and it all also comes down to the structural integrity and the stability of the body shell during impact. For potential buyers, the good news is that the pre-facelift Altroz had scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test as per the older protocols. The facelifted Altroz is essentially built on the same platform and should fare similarly or even better if sent for a crash test to Bharat NCAP.
It is also important to note that the pre-faclift version of the Baleno was tested by Latin NCAP and had received a 0 star rating. On the other hand, the i20 was tested by Global NCAP and received a 3-star rating. So the Altroz clearly has an edge over its rivals. Will Tata send the facelifted model for the test? Only time will tell. But during the launch event, there was a slide of the Tata Altroz undertaking crash tests, which indicates that it could be highly possible the updated model might be sent for a crash test.
The Tata Altroz is priced from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with cars like the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Hyundai i20.
Knowing Tata’s DNA, one thing is for sure that the Altroz facelift will keep you safe and sound in an unforeseen situation. Is it the safest hatchback in its segment? Probably yes!
