Tata Motors has launched its Altroz hatchback today, with an AMT gearbox option for the CNG powertrain. Blending in the hatchback’s solid build quality and practicality with the affordable fuel option and the convenience of an AMT, it is clear that the carmaker has the modern urban buyer in its sights. Let’s take a look at what the Altroz iCNG AMT has to offer:
Tata is offering this powertrain combination with a choice of 5 trims, ranging from the second-from-base Pure variant to the one-below-top Accomplished S variant. This is how the pricing stacks up:
|
Variant |
Price (ex-showroom) |
|
Pure |
Rs 8.70 lakh |
|
Pure S |
Rs 9 lakh |
|
Creative |
Rs 9.57 lakh |
|
Creative S |
Rs 9.82 lakh |
|
Accomplished S |
Rs 10.77 lakh |
In terms of styling, the iCNG AMT variants remain identical to the standard Altroz. Up front you have a sharp fascia with LED headlamps and DRLs. Below, there is a sculpted bumper with vertically-mounted foglamps, a lower air dam and generous amounts of black accents.

In profile, the hatchback gets a sharply raked windshield, along with flush door handles that make it look sporty. Interestingly, Tata has mounted the rear door handles behind the window for a unique look, just like its SUV sibling, the Punch. You also get 16-inch black alloy wheels with silver accents.

Towards the rear, you have a black applique covering much of the tailgate area, connected LED taillamps with a smoked effect and a black spoiler to add sportiness. Just like the front, the rear bumper too is sharply sculpted and gets generous amounts of black cladding.

The Altroz is offered in five colour options: Pristine White, Pure Grey, Ember Glow, Royal Blue and Dune Glow.
Inside, the snazzy design language continues. You have the dual-tone dashboard upfront, with a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a two-spoke illuminated steering wheel and a touch-based climate control panel. The centre-console on the other hand gets a lot of gloss black trim, two cupholders and a sliding centre armrest as well.

In terms of features, the Altroz iCNG AMT gets equipment such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, wireless phone charger, keyless entry, ambient lighting, 8-speaker music system and automatic climate control.

Safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rain-sensing wipers. The Altroz has a 5-star BNCAP safety rating too.

Notably, since this combination is not available in the top-end trim, it misses out on technology like an air purifier, a larger digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, custom audio modes and a blind view monitor.
The Altroz is offered with a choice of two engine options, including a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The former also gets the choice of a twin-cylinder CNG-powered option, with an AMT offered as well from now on. Here are the detailed specifications of the Altroz:

The Tata Altroz goes up against other premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza.
The premium hatchback segment has few options, and Tata continuing to update the Altroz is an encouraging sign. Furthermore, this new CNG AMT combination will make life easier for buyers who drive a lot in urban conditions, and want economical running costs with the convenience of an automatic transmission.
