The Tata Altroz facelift, with its refreshed styling inside out, along with a well-equipped feature set, is grabbing attention. But its feature-loaded cabin closely rivals one of its key competitors, the Hyundai i20. Can the updated Altroz edge past the i20, or will the latter continue to hold its ground with its existing strengths? Find out as we compare both hatchbacks in terms of pricing, specifications, and features.

While the Altroz facelift undercuts the i20 by Rs 15,000 at the base level, the top-spec i20 is priced around Rs 25,000 lower than the Altroz. That said, the Altroz is available with multiple engine options, which we will explore further in this report.

It's in the features department where the Altroz facelift offers a few extras over the Hyundai i20. These include a digital driver's display, an air purifier, and a 360-degree camera system. However, both hatchbacks come equipped with key comforts such as a sunroof, wireless phone charging, and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. The Altroz adds some feel good features that might sway you towards the Tata hatchback.
The Altroz facelift is offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol unit produces 88 PS and 115 Nm, while the diesel delivers 90 PS and 200 Nm. The petrol engine can also be had with a factory-fitted CNG kit, which reduces its output to 73.5 PS and 103 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
In contrast, the Hyundai i20 is available only with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes up to 88 PS and 115 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
The Altroz is also the only hatchback in its segment to be available with a diesel powertrain, so if you want the gruntful diesel unit, then you might want to consider the Altroz.
On paper, the Tata Altroz facelift seems to offer better value with its multiple engine options and overall package. While the Hyundai i20 misses out on a few features, it still delivers a comparable experience. However, the key difference lies in their powertrain options, the Altroz offers multiple choices, whereas the i20 is available with only a single petrol engine. With similar top-spec pricing, the Altroz is clearly the more well-equipped option and also looks more modern now. The i20 is a hatchback you can’t go wrong with and it can also be considered, especially if you want a petrol-powered car.
Based on their overall offerings, which hatchback would you pick between the two? Let us know in the comments below.
