Tata’s Altroz has always been a well-balanced hatchback, and the 2025 facelift builds on that strength with better packaging and more options under the hood. But what kind of driving experience does it deliver?
Let’s dig into the performance and handling characteristics of the Altroz!
Tata is not playing the one-size-fits-all game here. The 2025 Tata Altroz is offered in three engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, a 1.2-litre petrol-CNG, and a 1.5-litre diesel, each catering to a different driving need.

The 1.2-litre NA petrol is refined for daily city use and comes with a manual, AMT, or DCT. The DCT variant even gets paddle shifters, giving you some control and fun behind the wheel when you want it.
While this engine is perfect for commutes and light-footed driving, it does not enjoy being stressed. Overtakes at high RPMs make it a bit shouty, and you will notice that it runs out of breath when pushed hard.
NA Petrol+CNG
For wallet-friendly driving, there’s the iCNG variant. It switches seamlessly between fuels, and its performance is ideal for daily commutes and occasional highway drives. It’s absolutely not tuned for performance, which is really evident. An AMT option for the CNG is sorely missed, since we have already seen it with the younger Tiago and the Tigor iCNG.
The Diesel
If long-distance cruising is your need, then the 1.5-litre diesel engine could be your best bet. With effortless acceleration and strong highway manners, it makes light work of extended drives.
The manual gearbox, although light and smooth, the same cannot be said for it’s clutch, which is a bit heavy when compared to the petrol.
It’s a bummer that there is no automatic option for diesel buyers. Also, the diesel could have been a bit quieter, you will hear more than you would like in terms of engine clatter.
It is worth noting that the Altroz is the only car in the segment to offer a diesel option.
The Altroz continues to impress with its excellent ride quality. Whether it’s gliding over speed breakers or soaking up potholes, it handles bad roads with great composure. Body roll is well contained, meaning you won’t move around the cabin, even when the tarmac gets rough.
This refined ride comfort carries over to the highways too, where the Altroz remains stable at triple-digit speeds and gracefully manages undulations and expansion joints. It even surprises with its cornering confidence, handling tight turns without feeling out of shape, which is not something you often expect from a comfort-first hatch.
That said, suspension thud over deeper potholes can sometimes filter through the cabin. A bit more insulation would have made the experience better.
The 2025 Altroz might not be the most powerful car in its class, but it plays to its strengths, i.e. comfort, composure, and variety.
Whether you are looking for an efficient daily driver, a highway mile-muncher, or something in between, there’s likely an Altroz that fits the bill. It is not here to thrill an enthusiast, and that, for most people, would not matter. What you do get is a well-sorted, easy-to-live-with hatch that does most jobs, just well.
With its solid ride quality, balanced handling, and multiple powertrain choices, including a rare diesel option, the Tata Altroz continues to be a sensible pick for buyers who want comfort without compromise.
While it could use a bit more finesse in terms of refinement and NVH, it's got the basics sorted. If you are not in it for outright speed but want a hatch that behaves like a mature all-rounder, then the updated Altroz might just be the one you were looking for!
