For this facelift, Volkswagen has given the Taigun a major design update that includes new colours, a new front fascia and some clever details which make it feel premium.
Up front, it gets a new front fascia that consists of a reworked bumper, a slimmer grille with connected LED light bar and an illuminated logo. You also get to see a new design for the LED headlamps, which are now curvier in shape resembling the units found in the Tayron R-Line and Tiguan R-Line.

The side profile is identical to the pre-facelift SUV except for a new design for the alloy wheels which adds a fresh feel. Other styling touches include roof rails, black cladding and a blacked-out B-pillar.

The rear-end too sees minor but meaningful changes. The connected LED taillamp gets reworked detailing and an illuminated logo, while the bumper has also been revised with a sleeker look.

Notably, the new Taigun gets two new colours called the Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey in addition to existing shades such as Wild Cherry Red, Lava Blue, Candy White, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel and Carbon Steel Matte.
Inside, there are lesser changes and the Taigun continues with the same dashboard layout as before. However, you get new colour themes inside and a panoramic sunroof for a fresh and airy feel. You also get to see a larger digital instrument cluster than before, but elements like the three-spoke steering wheel and the touch-based climate controls remain the same.

Volkswagen has added a few new features to the Taigun such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AI assistant and a panoramic sunroof. Besides these, it is also equipped with automatic climate control, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, a 6-speaker sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM and auto headlamps.

Safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, all-wheel disc brakes, multi-collision braking, electronic differential lock, rear view camera and front and rear parking sensors.
Engine options in the new Taigun remain unchanged with 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines on offer. However, a big change has come in the form of a new 8-speed AT for the smaller engine, which replaces the 6-speed unit on the outgoing car.

As before, the 1.5-litre engine continues with a 7-speed DCT as the sole gearbox option. Here are the Taigun’s detailed specifications:
|
Engine |
1-litre turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre turbo-petrol |
|
Transmission |
6-speed MT/ 8-speed AT (NEW) |
7-speed DCT |
|
Power (PS) |
115 PS |
150 PS |
|
Torque (Nm) |
178 Nm |
250 Nm |
MT- Manual Transmission, AT- Automatic Transmission (torque converter)
DCT- Dual Clutch Transmission (automatic)
The Taigun goes up against compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Citroen Aircross and the MG Astor.

The Taigun didn’t need a drastic overhaul, and Volkswagen seems to know that. Instead, this facelift focuses on what really matters by adding meaningful features, improving everyday usability and refining the driving experience with a new automatic gearbox. What further improves the package is the attractive pricing which will help it compete in what is a crowded segment. That said, given its age, we would have liked to see the carmaker giving it a more comprehensive overhaul and adding some features that are now commonplace in the compact SUV space.
