This facelift is a bit more than just a nip and tuck!

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift

Volkswagen has commenced the production of its latest product, the Taigun facelift at its facility in Pune, Maharashtra. Along with this announcement, the carmaker has also partly revealed the updated exterior design of the SUV, which is expected to be fully unveiled in a few days. This is what we know so far:

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Exterior Revealed

While we already knew that the major design changes were to happen from spyshots and recent teasers, we can now see how the SUV looks without camouflage. Up front, there is a new fascia with a slimmer grille, illuminated logo, sleeker bumpers, connected LED light bar and swooping headlamps resembling those from its siblings like the Tayron R-Line and Tiguan R-Line

In profile there are fewer changes, and it retains prominent roof rails, a sculpted look and chrome door handles as well. You also get to see a new design for the alloy wheels (which are blacked-out in the GT-line trims).

Volkswagen has not revealed the rear-end styling yet, but from the teasers we can see that it will get reworked detailing and an illuminated logo for the connected LED taillamp cluster. It could also see a new bumper as well with sleeker detailing for a fresh feel.

Notably, as before we can also see that the GT-Line variants will also add blacked-out elements like alloy wheels and bumper accents. It will also get a dark grey front faux skid plate and red brake calipers as well. The SUV will also be offered with new colour options.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Interior

While the interior has not been revealed yet, expect the cabin design to be similar to the outgoing version, with an upright dashboard, three-spoke steering wheel and body-coloured accents. Expected changes include a new colour scheme, a larger digital instrument cluster, an updated touchscreen infotainment system and the addition of a panoramic sunroof to make the cabin feel airy.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Features And Safety

Feature-wise expect updates on the lines of the Skoda Kushaq facelift which is based on the same platform. This means it could get an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AI assistant, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, rear seat massager and the aforementioned panoramic sunroof.

These would be in addition to existing features like 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, 6-speaker sound system and auto headlamps.

The Taigun facelift’s safety suite is likely to include 6 airbags, electronic stability control, rear view camera, electronic differential lock, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold assist and a rear wiper with defogger.

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Powertrain

The new Taigun will likely continue with the same 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options. However a new addition could come in the form of a new 8-speed AT replacing the 6-speed unit in the current car, although the 6-speed MT will continue as is.

On the other hand, the 1.5-litre engine is expected to be mated to a DCT automatic transmission only. Here are the detailed specifications:

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Launch Date, Expected Price And Rivals

Volkswagen will fully unveil the Taigun on 9th April with a launch expected in the coming weeks. It is expected to be priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift

The Taigun facelift will face heavy competition from rivals like the Renault Duster, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Citroen Aircross and the MG Astor.

ZigSays…

The new Taigun is almost here! And rather than a radical approach, Volkswagen has opted for a rather subtle facelift, being largely limited to cosmetic enhancements. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though as the Taigun was always an enthusiast-favourite option in the segment and known for its classy style, sophisticated feel and strong build. But if this facelift is able to continue that legacy or not will only be known once the prices are out.
