Volkswagen has unveiled the first facelift of its mid-size SUV, the Taigun, in India, ever since its first launch in 2021. This facelift brings a host of styling updates, new features, an updated interior, a new gearbox, and some striking new colour options as well.
Let’s take a look at everything the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun has to offer:
The Volkswagen Taigun was first launched in 2021, and ever since its launch, it has been one of the most mature and smart-looking cars in the segment. With its first facelift in pictures, Volkswagen has made the styling more elegant and modern than before, with certain sporty elements that grab attention. Starting with the front fascia, the Taigun now sports a slimmer grille with curvy headlights, which are connected by an LED DRL that runs through the grille and also illuminates the VW logo. Also new is a sleeker bumper with glossy black / chrome inserts (depending upon variant) and a skid plate, which gives it a sporty look.

Moving to the side, the overall silhouette remains identical to the pre-facelift model. The thick body claddings, along with the roof rails, improve the overall stance and road presence of the car. What’s different here is the new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels that look sporty yet elegant.

As for the rear-end styling, the sporty, elegant and sober design language continues here as well. The Taigun facelift sports slimmer connected LED taillamps with sequential turn indicators. Along with this, you also have sleek rear bumpers with chrome / glossy black elements and thick body cladding that offers a new look. Adding to the overall sportiness of the rear is an integrated rear spoiler and a shark fin antenna.

Volkswagen is offering the Taigun facelift in 9 colour options, of which 2 colours are new. These new colours are Steel Grey, and Avocado Pearl. You can also have the Taigun in existing colours such as Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Lava Blue, Deep Black Pearl, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel and Carbon Steel Matte. A few of these shades also get an optional dual-tone theme with a black roof.
On the inside, the Taigun facelift does not get a lot of changes to the overall cabin layout; it is still quite similar to the outgoing model with an upright dashboard layout. The cabin still retains the physical buttons for various controls and there is a larger digital instrument cluster as well.

It continues to use the three-spoke steering wheel with subtle silver surrounds. You also get an option of all-black and grey-black cabin themes based on the variant that adds to the sporty feel. The biggest addition inside the cabin is the introduction of a panoramic sunroof, which gives an airy feeling inside the cabin and also adds to the premium experience.

With this facelifted model, Volkswagen has added some new features to the Taigun to keep it fresh in light of newer competition. These features include a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with turn-by-turn navigation, and an updated 10.1-inch infotainment screen with AI Assistant.

Apart from the above mentioned new features, the Taigun facelift carries forward much of its equipment from the outgoing model. These features are 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, auto headlamps, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, a 6 Speaker sound system and a wireless phone charger.

In terms of safety, the Taigun facelift comes equipped with 6 airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold assist, electronic differential lock, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Volkswagen will continue to offer the Taigun facelift with the same engine options as the outgoing model. These options comprise 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TSI engines. A major change mechanically comes in the form of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that replaces the 6-speed unit on the older car, while the 6-speed manual gearbox continues as well.

The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which is admired by enthusiasts, continues to be exclusively available with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Here are the detailed specifications of these powertrains:

Volkswagen has not revealed an official launch date yet, but expect the Taigun facelift to go on sale in the coming weeks. It is expected to be priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be available with a choice of 7 variants: Comfortline, Highline, Topline, Highline Plus, GT Line, GT Plus Chrome and GT Plus Sport.

The Volkswagen Taigun facelift continues to be a part of the compact SUV segment that is flooded with strong rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Citroen Aircross and the MG Astor.
With the introduction of a facelift, Volkswagen intends to keep the Taigun a strong contender in the mid-size SUV segment. The overall styling is more elegant now, without missing out on its essential sporty touches, while the updated feature list ensures that the car stays fresh in the ever-growing competition with multiple cars in the market.
Volkswagen also went a step ahead and rectified some customer complaints with the new Taigun, which portrays how serious Volkswagen is about the Taigun. All of this, with a diverse range of variants, competitive pricing, and a more efficient gearbox, ensures that the Taigun appeals to a wider audience. If you’re looking for a mid-size SUV which feels good to drive, has great performance, features, and comfort, the Taigun comes as a very strong contender, delivering all of this with ease.
