Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup

2 days prior to the unveil, Mahindra has teased the Scorpio N Pickup, after showcasing the concept back in 2023. The yearly Independence Day event by Mahindra is coming close, and this is the 2nd teaser following up to their event starting on 14th August. The teaser mentions that the unveiling of Mahindra's new pickup will take place on the same day. Let’s explore what we can make out from Mahindra’s teaser of the Scorpio N pickup.

What Can Be Seen

Exterior

Straight up, it is apparent that the pickup won’t carry the same styling as the regular Scorpio N.

The fascia looks more futuristic with L-shaped LED DRLs and a stylish LED headlamp cluster. The lower half of the front end also houses vertically stacked fog lamps, further enhancing the overlanding appeal of the Scorpio N. The overall shape of the front end resembles the Scorpio N to a certain extent. Mahindra seems to make sure to differentiate the two more than we expected.

The side profile has the typical pick-up silhouette, with a boxy design. It carries a recognisable front half borrowed from the Scorpio N.

Moving on to the rear, the tail section has a boxy yet sophisticated styling thanks to the bold LED tail lamps and moreover, the Mahindra branding sitting proud on the tailgate.

On the Interior, the Scorpio N pickup is also a departure from the regular Scorpio N. The pickup, like on the outside, has a much more modern cabin thanks to the large vertical touchscreen drawing attention on the dashboard. The climate control panel is also completely new, sitting below the touchscreen. The driver gets a floating digital display as well, which looks like a 10.25-inch screen carried from the existing models. However, another elephant in the room is the brand new steering wheel design. Modern, edgy and suits the design character of the overall vehicle. While the teaser does not reveal the images of the rest of the cabin, we can say that the black-themed leatherette-finished interior will have a premium look with decent enough space for a family, given that it is a dual-cab pickup.

What To Expect

Based on the regular Scorpio N, expect similar features like keyless entry with push-button start, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, 6-way powered adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, multiple drive modes, wireless charger, connected car technology, single-pane sunroof and a Sony sound system.

Safety-wise, expect 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Level-2 ADAS, traction control (TC), 540-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and rain-sensing wipers.

Do note that the Scorpio N has scored 5 stars in the Global NCAP crash safety tests. We can expect similarly from the Bharat NCAP crash test as well.

Powertrain

The Scorpio N pickup will most likely come with the same engine options as the regular Scorpio N. They include a 2-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The pickup will also come with a 4WD drivetrain option, should you choose to take the pickup exploring into the wilderness. To keep you moving, the powertrain specifications available on the Scorpio N are as follows:

2.2-litre mHawk diesel

Expected Price & Launch

The Scorpio N pickup is expected to launch with a price tag starting from Rs 20 lakh onwards. It will go against the likes of the Isuzu V-Cross and the Toyota Hilux, given that these are the only mass-market pickup trucks available.

ZigSays…

With the recent launch of the Toyota Hilux on one end and the popularity of a car like the Thar Roxx, it is a sign that Indians perhaps are into lifestyle vehicles. We did have the Scorpio Getaway more than a decade ago, but was always a rare sight to behold. Following that, the Scorpio pickup has not been on sale in India for a long time, but only available for international markets like Australia and South Africa. The launch of this new-age Scorpio N pickup with a radically different appeal compared to the regular Scorpio N will be an interesting proposition.

If it turns out to be reasonably comfortable and practical, it might see a decent number of takers. What do you think of the new Scorpio N pickup? Would you buy it if it packs a long list of features and is comfortable to carry your family? Let us know in the comments.
