August was indeed a busy and bustling month in the Indian car industry! In this month, we saw various new hotly anticipated cars from Mahindra, Tata and Citroen and high-end performance oriented SUVs from Mercedes-Benz and Lamborghini. The good news is that there is more to come in the upcoming festive season with plenty of exciting launches, so stay tuned for that. For now, let’s take a recap of the cars that were launched in the month of August:
The Mahindra Thar Roxx was launched at an introductory price of Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the RWD variants. Prices for the 4X4 variants will be announced soon. With the Thar Roxx, Mahindra has given it a tweaked and more rugged styling as well as a premium touch to the cabin by introducing a host of amenities and creature comforts. It also gets more potent engine options now.
Bookings for the 5 door Mahindra Thar Roxx will commence from October 3 and deliveries will begin Dussehra 2024. However, test drives will begin earlier from September 14 onwards.
Tata introduced the much-anticipated Curvv EV on our shores, with prices ranging from Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Curvv EV boasts a unique SUV-coupe design and a tonne of premium features. Its cabin design is similar to that of the Nexon EV, but certain design bits and features have been taken from the more premium Harrier SUV. The electric Curvv is available with two battery pack options: A medium range (45 kWh battery pack) and long range (55 kWh battery pack ). It offers an ARAI-claimed range of up to 585 km.
Along with the Curvv EV, Tata also introduced its ICE counterpart, which will be launched in India on September 2, 2024. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for that!
The Nissan X-trail made a comeback in India after a decade and has been priced at Rs 49.92 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in a fully loaded single variant with all the essential features, but there are still some misses at this price point. It is powered by a sole 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which is paired with a CVT. The model will be sold in India as a fully imported model, and will compete with full-size SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster.
Citroen launched the Basalt SUV coupe on our shores, starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets an attractive coupe design which makes it stand out from the conventionally styled SUVs in its segment. It misses out on certain features, but still gets a decently-equipped and spacious cabin for the price it's offered at. It is available with both NA petrol and turbo-petrol engine options and the latter can be had with an automatic transmission as well. The Basalt’s price range positions it as a larger alternative to sub-4 metre SUVs.
Soon after launching the Basalt on our shores, Citroen launched the updated C3, with prices starting from 6.16 lakh and going up to Rs 9.3 lakh for the top-spec variant. The updated C3 brings in new features which were much needed on the hatchback and an optional automatic transmission with the turbo-petrol engine. To learn more about the updates on the C3, tap here.
Lamborghini launched the Urus SE on our shores at Rs 4.57 crore (ex-showroom). It gets a more aggressive looking exterior and the cabin has been updated with minor tweaks as well.
But it’s underneath the hood where the main change is as it is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain which produces a mammoth 800 PS and 950 Nm, helping it sprint from 0-100 kmph run in just 3.4 seconds. More details about it can be found in our launch story.
Mercedes-Benz launched the GLC 43 Coupe in India at Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom). It is the sportier version of the GLC SUV and gets a more aggressive looking exterior design in an SUV-coupe body style. The interior too gets an AMG treatment including sportier steering wheel, trims and seats. It is powered by a 2-litre petrol engine which produces 421 PS and 500 Nm and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.8 seconds.
The CLE Cabriolet is another car launched from the Merc’s stable, once again priced at Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom). It is a two-door convertible which comes in a 2+2 seating configuration. It takes its design inspiration from the C-Class, but looks much sleeker and has its own identity. Powering the convertible is the 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 258 PS and 400 Nm. Additionally, It also gets a mild-hybrid assist which adds 23 PS and 205 Nm. It has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

Audi launched the facelifted version of its flagship Q8 SUV at Rs 1.17 crore (ex-showroom). The updated version received exterior updates including a new grille, updated headlights, and redesigned alloy wheels. The cabin remains the same, albeit with different colour upholstery options.
It is powered by the same 340 PS 3-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels.
Maserati has launched the GranTurismo in India at Rs 2.72 crore (ex-showroom). It is available in 2 variants: Modena and Trofeo. The 2-seater boasts a sleek design for the exterior and an upgraded interior with large displays for various controls and functions. Both Modena and Trofeo variants are powered by the 3-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine, which makes 490 PS with the former and 550 PS with the latter. The GranTurismo is capable of doing a 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.5 seconds with the more potent Trofeo version. An all-electric Folgore version will be launched in 2025.
