Ducati Monster Design Patent Filed In India, Launch Expected Soon

While international markets have already welcomed the all-new Ducati Monster last year, Indian buyers continue to get the previous-generation model priced at Rs 13.84 lakh (ex-showroom). That, however, looks set to change soon. Ducati has filed the design patent for the updated Monster in India, hinting that the naked streetfighter could finally make its way to our shores in the near future.

A Return To The Monster's Iconic Look

One of the biggest talking points of the new Monster is its styling. Ducati has responded to criticism of the outgoing bike by bringing back the muscular fuel tank silhouette that made the Monster such an icon over the years. The redesigned tank also features side vents inspired by the second-generation Monster, giving the motorcycle a much stronger visual identity.

New V2 Engine Brings More Performance

Power comes from Ducati's new 890cc V2 engine, which also does duty on the Panigale V2, Streetfighter V2 and Multistrada V2. It produces 111 PS at 9,000rpm and 91.1 Nm at 7,250rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and a bidirectional quickshifter. The engine also gets variable intake valve timing for improved torque delivery across the rev range.

Another major change is the move away from Ducati's traditional Desmodromic valve system. This allows valve clearance inspection intervals to stretch to an impressive 45,000km, making long-term ownership less demanding.

Familiar Underpinnings, Modern Tech

The updated Monster continues to use Ducati's aluminium monocoque chassis with a lightweight subframe. Suspension duties are handled by a Showa USD fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock, while braking comes courtesy of twin Brembo callipers biting 320mm front discs. A larger 5-inch TFT display replaces the previous 4.2-inch unit.

With Ducati steadily bringing its latest global motorcycles to India, the Monster appears to be the next in line. The patent filing strongly suggests an official launch may not be too far away. Once launched, the Ducati bike will go up against the Kawasaki Z900 and the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS.
