Bajaj is promising a radically new experience with what’s set to be its biggest Pulsar yet, the Pulsar 250. Here’s what we already know about it

[UPDATE: Bajaj has launched the Pulsar F250 and the N250 in India at Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.38 lakh respectively. For more details on the specifications, availability and features, head to our launch story.]

Months of speculations and rumors will end tomorrow as Bajaj gears up to launch the highly anticipated Pulsar 250. Before the veils on the biggest Pulsar yet drops, here’s a lowdown on everything we know so far about the bike:

Fresh Design,Same Approach
The Bajaj Pulsar 250 is all set to replace the ageing Pulsar 220 F, and just like the 220, the new bike will be slightly sporty without compromising on practicality. Bajaj has equipped the 250 with a half-fairing similar to the 220F’s, but the new one looks sharper.

The Pulsar 250 will also come equipped with LED illumination all around, a first for the Pulsar family. Even the instrument console is completely new, but instead of a fully digital unit, it gets a semi-digital console with an analog tachometer and a digital speedometer, just like the model it replaces.

Even the ergonomics are similar to the 220F. While the footpegs are slightly rear-set, giving it a slightly sporty feel and aids cornering clearance, the raised clip-on handlebars should make long hours on the saddle a tad comfortable.

Shared Underpinnings
Bajaj has played it safe by using the same underpinnings from the RS 200 and Pulsar NS200. The alloy wheels on the Pulsar 250 are from its liquid-cooled siblings, and even the suspension setup and braking hardware seems to have been carried over. Furthermore, the 250 seems to have borrowed its perimeter frame from the RS and NS line of bikes.

A Brand-new Powerhouse
The Indian bikemaker hasn’t bored out the existing 220cc engine for the 250, but has built a new air-cooled engine aided by an oil-cooler. We reckon that the new engine will have a decent bump in performance than the 20.4PS and 18.5Nm produced by the Pulsar 220F’s engine.

Most affordable Quarter-litre Bike In India?
The Pulsar range introduced the idea of affordable performance motorcycles to Indian enthusiasts two decades ago, and Bajaj will continue the tradition with the Pulsar 250. Currently, the Pulsar 220F is priced at Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom), and Bajaj may introduce the new bike with a similar price tag. This is possible partly due to component sharing, which will reduce production costs. Bajaj has always been known to introduce new bikes at highly competitive prices, and with the Pulsar 250 positioned around Rs 1.3 lakh, it could pose a serious threat to Suzuki Gixxer SF 250Gixxer SF (based on price),the Xtreme 200S and even the Yamaha FZ 25.
