It’s been a while since MG Motor India unveiled the new Majestor, and now we have finally got our hands on the much-awaited SUV. So far from the details revealed by MG, it seems to be a promising product on paper with a slew of cutting-edge features, a powerful and capable powertrain and true SUV styling. Here is a closer look at what it is like, and the top 5 things we liked about it:
Measuring in at over 5 metres in length and over 2 metres in width, the Majestor’s sheer size is something that clearly stands out, even from afar. MG says it is the largest car in its segment, and looking at it in the flesh makes that claim quite hard to refute.

What takes this feeling one or two notches higher is the loud, unapologetic and butch styling. Upfront, the massive gloss black grille and tall bonnet scream ‘get out of my way’, while the angry-looking rear-end with its black applique, massive ‘MAJESTOR’ badging and the connected LED taillamps add to the sort of road presence that few SUVs can replicate on our roads.

One thing MG does quite well is load its cars to the brim with technology, and the Majestor is no different. You get plenty of creature comforts and luxuries like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a massive panoramic sunroof, 12-way powered driver and 8-way powered co-driver seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual wireless phone chargers, 12-speaker JBL sound system, ventilated and massaging front seats, powered tailgate, three-zone climate control and even 64-colour ambient lighting.

With all of this equipment and pampering on offer, there is hardly anything else left to wish for.
The imposing and indestructible feel of the Majestor is a quality taken forward to the ride quality aspect. The Majestor rides on huge 19-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped with fat 265/55 section rubber. Pair this to the independent suspension setup on all ends, and the SUV eats up potholes, undulations and any other obstacle you can throw at it for breakfast.

Yes, the Majestor has a lot of goodies, but they are not all just for show. There is some really useful stuff that makes it a true-blue SUV, in case you are sick of the ‘just another crossover’ syndrome that is rampant these days.

Besides the basics, like aggressive approach, departure and rampover angles or a proper low range transfer case, the Majestor has some neat tricks like 10 (yes, ten) off-road modes, three locking differentials, 810 mm water wading capabilities and a super-cool ‘M-crawl’ off-road cruise control.
In the Majestor’s case, being an SUV does not mean compromising on practicality. There is plenty of space inside, and even more storage options. ‘Lack of cupholders’ is a phenomenon that Majestor buyers will completely forget exists.

There is a massive glovebox upfront, a really deep cubby underneath the front armrests, huge door pockets for all your knick-knacks, removable cupholders and trays for rear occupants and a massive 1,350 litre boot with the third row folded down to carry any and everything that you could think of.
MG is not a carmaker that pops into your mind when you think of a traditional butch and rugged SUV, but the Majestor goes on to show that it is no less of one. There are many things to like about the SUV, and these top 5 reasons will keep most prospective customers happy. But if it can truly rival the so-far-invincible Fortuner is something we will come to know only with time, and once the prices are fully revealed.
