Before the Japanese rival of the Hero Splendor arrives, here’s a quick recap of what we know about the bike thus far

It is no secret that Honda is gearing up to launch its 100cc commuter bike in India. Here’s what we know so far about the Japanese bikemaker’s Hero Splendor-rivalling motorcycle:

Launch Date

Honda sent us a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for March 15, 2023, confirming that the debut of its upcoming motorcycle will take place this week.

To Carry The ‘Shine’ Moniker

The Japanese bikemaker’s invite mentioned the term “Shining Future,” which hinted that the new motorcycle could be one to carry the “Shine” moniker. Furthermore, the teaser also showed a motorcycle which bore resemblance to the Shine 125. This could actually prove to be a smart move, considering that the Shine is the highest-selling 125cc motorcycle in our market, and cashing in on its popularity will help Honda make a dent in the Hero Splendor’s market share.

A New 100cc Engine On The Cards

The Honda Shine 100 could be powered by a new 100cc engine. Every teaser that Honda has put up so far mentions “Honda ki 100,” confirming the engine capacity. But, will it be a sloper engine like it is with the Hero Splendor? Given that the Japanese company filed a patent with regard to the matter back in 2020, and given the fact that Honda originally introduced this engine back in the 90s, the possibility cannot be ruled out.

There’s another possibility too and it is that the motor could be a downsized version of the CD110 engine. If that’s the case, the price of the bike would be more than one fitted with a sloper engine.

‘Positively Shocking’ Price Tag

To get an edge over the Hero Splendor, Honda will have to be super competitive while determining the price of its new motorcycle. For reference, the Splendor is priced at Rs 72,076 and the HF100 comes with a tag of Rs 56,968 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). We reckon Honda could price its 100cc bike at around Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom) to take on the motorcycles from Hero.

The Honda Shine 100 will be going up against the likes of the Hero HF 100, HF Deluxe and the Bajaj Platina 100, apart from the above-mentioned Splendor.
