Some cars become successful because they are exciting. Others succeed because they quietly become a part of everyday Indian life. The Tiago has always belonged to the second category.
Ahead of its official launch on May 28, Tata Motors has revealed the updated Tiago and Tiago EV, and this facelift feels much more significant than a routine cosmetic refresh. It feels like Tata finally decided its smallest hatchback deserves the same road presence and identity as the rest of the lineup.
The transformation is immediately noticeable.
The new Tiago now carries a much sharper and more mature face inspired heavily by the Tata Altroz. The older car looked simple and approachable, but this facelift gives it a far more confident stance.
Up front, you now get:
Sleeker LED headlamps
Eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs
Completely redesigned bumper
Blacked-out grille on the ICE version
Body-coloured blanked-off grille on the EV
The bumper design itself looks heavily inspired by newer Tata models, especially the Altroz and Punch EV, and that instantly makes the Tiago feel more premium than before.

In profile, the hatchback gets:
New dual-tone alloy wheels
Black ORVMs
Shark-fin antenna
Black roof treatment
Chunkier wheel arch cladding
These changes may sound small individually, but together they dramatically alter the Tiago’s character. For the first time, it feels sporty and youthful without trying too hard.
The rear design has also been completely reworked. The new tail-lamps now feature vertical LED detailing along with a connected-light effect that visually widens the car. While the lamps are not physically connected, the chunky black strip between them gives the Tiago a much more modern look.

The Tiago ICE and Tiago EV may share the same overall silhouette, but Tata has given both hatchbacks distinctly different personalities at the front. The petrol-powered Tiago gets a blacked-out grille, pixel-style fog lamps and slightly sportier bumper detailing, making it look more aggressive and youthful overall.
The Tiago EV, meanwhile, takes a cleaner and more futuristic approach. It gets a body-coloured blanked-off grille along with a smoother front-end treatment and more minimalistic styling elements, helping it look noticeably more sophisticated and EV-specific than before.

While Tata has not fully revealed the cabin yet, the updates are expected to focus more on improving the overall tech and premium feel rather than completely redesigning the dashboard.
Expected changes include:
Revised instrument cluster
Updated graphics and interface
Refreshed interior theme
New upholstery treatment
The Tiago already received a redesigned dashboard and 10.25-inch infotainment system recently, so this facelift is likely to build on that rather than reinvent it altogether.
The illuminated Tata logo steering wheel, already seen on newer Tata models, is also expected to continue.
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the addition of a 360-degree camera system.

Camera pods visible under the ORVMs and front bumper confirm the feature, making the Tiago one of the most affordable hatchbacks in India to offer a 360-camera setup.
Other expected features include:
10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
Automatic climate control
Cruise control
Auto headlights
Auto wipers
TPMS
Rear parking camera with sensors
Wireless smartphone connectivity
Safety could also see a significant boost, with reports suggesting Tata may offer six airbags as standard across the lineup.
And honestly, that feels important.
Because buyers today no longer want affordable cars to feel basic. They want safety, technology and a sense of pride in ownership too. The new Tiago seems to understand that shift perfectly.
Mechanically, the Tiago is expected to remain unchanged, and that is not necessarily a bad thing.
The petrol-powered Tiago will likely continue with the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with:
5-speed manual gearbox
5-speed AMT

The CNG variants are also expected to continue as part of the lineup, remaining an important option for buyers prioritising lower running costs.
The Tiago EV, meanwhile, is expected to retain its dual battery pack setup, although Tata could slightly improve battery sizes or efficiency figures to offer better claimed range.

Given how important range figures have become in the affordable EV space, even small improvements here could make a meaningful difference.
The facelifted Tiago range is expected to witness a slight bump in pricing, largely due to the extensive design revisions and the addition of new premium features like the 360-degree camera and updated technology suite.

The Tiago ICE is expected to be priced between around Rs 4.8 lakh and Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), where it will continue taking on rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Suzuki WagonR.

The Tiago EV, meanwhile, is expected to be priced from around Rs 8.2 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom), continuing its rivalry with the MG Comet EV and Citroen eC3 in the affordable EV space.
The Tiago has always been one of those honest little cars that quietly overdelivered without making too much noise about itself. It finally has the design confidence, tech appeal and road presence to match the value proposition it always offered.
And perhaps that is the biggest compliment this update deserves: the Tiago no longer looks like Tata’s budget hatchback. It simply looks like a modern Tata.
