Kia Carens Clavis EV Review - The Best Carens Yet; Yet..

The Kia Carens Clavis EV isn’t the kind of car that demands attention. Instead, it quietly presents a case for itself by doing the basics right, and that’s something we increasingly appreciate in a market often obsessed with being too flashy.
After spending time with it, here are five things that stood out for the right reasons:
A lot of cars claim to be “three-row” but function more like two-plus-two-and-a-half. That isn’t the case here. In the Carens Clavis EV, average-sized adults can genuinely fit in all three rows without much compromise. The second row gets the usual sliding and reclining functionality, but it’s the ease of access to the third row, thanks to the one-touch tumble function, that makes it more usable in everyday scenarios.

The third row isn’t exactly business class, but it’s certainly acceptable for short trips or city drives. In a segment where the third row is often treated as an afterthought, this is something we really appreciate.

The Carens Clavis EV gets a comprehensive feature set, and more importantly, most of it feels relevant. The digital screens are sharp and functional, the front seat ventilation is a practical inclusion for Indian summers, and the wireless chargers at the front and back show some attention to detail.

The ADAS equipment, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring, adds a layer of safety, especially on longer journeys. Thankfully, none of it feels overbearing, and most features can be easily turned off or adjusted to suit your preferences.
What impressed us most was how well the Carens Clavis EV handles everyday needs. There’s a lot of functional storage, door pockets that can actually hold bottles, foldable trays that don’t feel flimsy, and cupholders in places where you’d expect them. Even the third row gets its share of charging points, own AC vents and storage.

Electric vehicles often try to sell themselves with instant torque and brisk acceleration. The Carens Clavis EV, while decently quick (0–100 kmph in a little over 8 seconds), doesn’t create any drama when pushed. The power delivery is smooth, predictable, and more than adequate for city traffic and highway speeds.

There are multiple drive modes and regenerative braking settings, including a one-pedal drive mode. But none of it feels intrusive, and that’s the point; this car intends to make your commute easier, not more complicated.
Boot capacity often becomes a trade-off in three-row vehicles. The Carens Clavis’s boot is flat, easy to load, and doesn’t require any complicated folding mechanism. It comes with a storage of 216 litres with all 3 rows up, but that 216 litres of boot space increases by a significant margin when you fold the third-row seats.

Even with all three rows up, there’s just enough room for a medium-size and a cabin-stroller, which is more than what many rivals offer. It may not sound exciting on paper, but in real life, it’s these small conveniences that make a car easier to live with.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV may not be revolutionary, but it doesn’t need to be. Kia made sure that it focuses on being easy to drive, comfortable to sit in, and simple to live with. In a space where electric vehicles are often trying to wow you with specs and screens, this one quietly focuses on the basics, and does them well.

It’s not the flashiest EV out there, and it won’t top any performance charts. But for families or users looking for something that just works without fuss, the Clavis EV makes a very strong case for itself. Including possible usage by fleet operators looking for a no-nonsense 7-seater affordable-to-run electric vehicle.
