Kia Carens Clavis EV Review - The Best Carens Yet; Yet..

While most EV makers are busy cranking out one compact SUV after another, Kia seems to be playing a different game altogether. And it’s a bold one. The brand is gearing up to launch the Carens Clavis EV, its first-ever all-electric MPV for India, and here’s the twist: it’ll come with three rows of seats, right out of the box.
The Carens Clavis EV is set for its India as well as global premiere on July 15, 2025, and we’ve just got our hands on some exclusive early details that give us a better picture of what to expect.
A little birdie has confirmed to ZigWheels and tells us that Kia will be offering the Carens Clavis EV exclusively as a 7-seater. Yep, no captain seats, no 6-seater layout, just a practical, people-moving configuration, at least at the launch.

And honestly, that makes a lot of sense. Not everyone is looking for lounge-chair comfort. For many buyers, especially families or folks who often travel with a full house, having that third-row bench is non-negotiable.
Kia has confirmed that the Carens Clavis EV will come with a 51.4 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of up to 490 km (MIDC combined cycle). That’s more than enough for daily driving and weekend getaways, especially when you factor in the kind of size and weight a 7-seater brings.

But here’s something more interesting: there’s strong chatter about Kia offering a smaller 42 kWh battery pack for the lower variants. The expected range for that one? Somewhere around 390 to 400 km, which should still be enough for daily commutes and short out-of-town trips, while helping to keep the price accessible.
While Kia hasn’t shared exact motor details just yet, we expect a front-wheel-drive setup, with power output ranging between 135 and 170 PS depending on the variant.
Design-wise, the Carens Clavis EV wouldn't actually be poles apart. From what we've seen in teasers, it stays close to the standard Carens in terms of shape and stance. But it adds enough EV-specific bits to stand apart. A blanked-off front grille, aero-tuned alloy wheels, and connected LED lighting at both ends give it that unmistakable electric vibe.
Inside, it’s again very familiar, but cleaner and a bit more tech-focused. Expect dual 12.3-inch displays, a new two-spoke steering wheel, and a rotary drive selector that frees up space on the centre console. The interior (of the top-end spec) will be in a black-and-white dual-tone finish, and there’s a clever storage compartment with a retractable lid where the gear lever used to be.

The Carens Clavis EV is likely to be generously equipped following the typical Kia fashion of loading their products to the brim with features.
Panoramic sunroof
Wireless phone charging (front and rear)
Ventilated, powered driver’s seat
Dual-zone climate control with rear vents
Auto-dimming IRVM
In terms of safety tech, it could get:
6 airbags as standard
360-degree camera with blind spot view
Level-2 ADAS features like:
Adaptive cruise control
Lane-keep assist
Driver drowsiness detection
Auto emergency braking
In short, the feature list is a direct lift from the ICE Carens Clavis.
Kia is expected to price the Carens Clavis EV at around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a strong contender in the upper-mid EV bracket. While there’s currently no direct rival in the 7-seater electric MPV space, it will compete with the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE6, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara in terms of features, pricing, and practicality.
But in terms of configuration? It’s carving a lane of its own.

In a market full of five-seater electric SUVs, Kia has spotted a clear opportunity and is going for it. By bringing in a 7-seater electric MPV, the brand is not only tapping into a growing family car segment but also appealing to fleet operators, airport transfers, and mobility services that are looking to go electric without losing seats.
It may not be the flashiest launch of 2025, but if Kia plays its cards right with pricing and availability, the Carens Clavis EV could quietly become a segment-defining product, one that proves there’s still room in the market for electric people movers.
So, what do you think? Would you pick a three-row EV like this over an ICE MPV? Let us know in the comments!
