Say hello (again) to Kia’s three-row family chariot, now with a battery and a bigger mission. The Carens Clavis EV has officially been teased ahead of its grand July 15 debut, and we finally have our first look at what Kia’s electric MPV will bring to the table.
And from what we’ve seen so far, it's all about evolution, not revolution. That’s right, the EV retains much of the design DNA of its ICE sibling, but sprinkles in the usual EV touches like a blanked-off grille, charging port, and those aero wheels.
The design isn’t screaming for attention, and that’s by design. The front still features Kia’s signature 3-pod triangular LED setup, but the grille’s now closed off, housing a neatly integrated charging flap. The bumper, complete with pixel-style fog lamps, has been carried over as is.
From the side, the silhouette is unmistakably a Carens. The body cladding stays, but the star of the side profile is undoubtedly the EV-specific alloy wheels designed to slice through the air with maximum efficiency.
At the rear, you’ll see connected LED tail lamps and a rugged bumper that adds a touch of SUV flair to this family haulier.
Step inside, and the dashboard layout will make Carens owners feel right at home. But look closer, and you’ll notice the black-and-white cabin theme and a reworked centre console. The conventional gear selector has vanished, possibly replaced by a sliding tray, handy for snacks, gadgets, or maybe even your kid’s toy dinosaur.
Still a proper 7-seater, still practical, and now a little more minimal.
While full details are still under wraps, the teaser confirms some crowd-pleasing kit:
Dual 12.3-inch displays (one for infotainment, the other for the digital cluster)
Panoramic sunroof
Wireless phone charger
Auto climate control
Expect Kia to go the extra mile with powered and ventilated front seats and possibly a premium sound system to keep passengers grooving on road trips.
On the safety front, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to bring in the big guns:
6 airbags
Electronic parking brake with auto hold
360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring
Level 2 ADAS
Disc brakes all around
Basically, all the bells and whistles you'd want in your family’s primary mover.
The highlight? Kia says this EV MPV will boast a claimed range of 490 km (MIDC, parts 1+2). It will house a 51.4 kWh battery pack, yet the motor specs remain hush-hush for now. These numbers certainly look promising for road trips, minus range anxiety.
Prices for the Kia Carens Clavis EV are expected to start around the Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. While it’s the first of its kind in the three-row electric MPV space, it will be an alternative to the compact SUV EVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV could be a category creator. With a three-row layout, practical features, and a near-500 km claimed range, it’s ticking the right boxes for Indian families who want space without sacrificing on sustainability. But here’s the kicker, this could also be a very smart pick for fleet operators looking to electrify their people movers without going the van route. If priced well, the Carens Clavis EV could be the sweet spot between private luxury and shared utility.
We’ll be watching this one closely. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for more content!
