Kia will be introducing the Carens Clavis EV on our shores tomorrow, bringing a family-friendly electric MPV for those who want the practicality of a 7-seater MPV while having all the modern-day tech and comforts. Being the only electric MPV in its segment, the Clavis EV will look to borrow some customers who were planning to opt for a compact electric SUV in the Rs 20 lakh budget range.
Ahead of its launch tomorrow, here are the top 5 things that you need to keep in mind…
The Clavis EV will get a similar design when compared to the regular Carens Clavis. However, certain EV-specific elements will help it stand out from the latter. Just like every other EV, the fascia comes with a blanked-off grille which houses the charging port. Apart from that, one can expect minor tweaks to the front bumper.

The EV version will get aero-friendly alloy wheels, giving it a slightly unique identity when viewed from the sides. Furthermore, it will come with EV badging, and we also expect it to get updated bumpers. The silhouette will look identical to the standard version. One can expect the EV iteration to be introduced with some new colour options.
The Clavis EV’s interior will be similar to the regular Clavis, featuring an identical dashboard design and layout. It will get a two-spoke steering wheel, something that we have already seen on new Kia models like the Syros and Clavis. The lower centre console has been redesigned to offer more storage space.

The interior will sport a black-and-white dual-tone theme, and you will also get a retractable-lid storage compartment positioned between the front seats for enhanced practicality. The Clavis will come in a 7-seater layout only.
Kia doesn’t compromise on features, and the Clavis EV, too, will come with all the features that you would need and want. It will come with dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and digital driver display, a dual-zone climate control, powered and ventilated driver’s seats, wireless phone charging for both front and rear passengers, a panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM).
The safety kit will likely comprise six airbags as standard, a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, and a Level-2 ADAS suite.
As confirmed by Kia, the Carens Clavis EV will come with a 51.4 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 490 km (MIDC Part 1 + 2). We believe that Kia might also introduce a smaller 42 kWh battery pack in lower variants, thereby catering for the budget-conscious buyer. With the smaller battery, one can expect a 100 km lower claimed range when compared to the top-spec battery pack.

Nothing has been revealed about the electric motor, but we expect it to be a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, with a power output ranging from around 135-170 PS.
The Clavis EV is expected to be priced from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). It will prove to be a larger 7-seater alternative to the likes of the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.

The Clavis EV looks like a well-packaged MPV, offering equipment on par with what similarly priced SUVs do. It will be ideal for those who have large families plus don’t want to spend on fuel.
