If there is not enough tread left on the tyres during heavy rains it is possible that the car might get aquaplane and go off the road. Read on to know more about aquaplane

Here in India we are used to heavy rains during the monsoons and super heavy rains during season changes. And if you have noticed an umbrella does not do the job during these heavy rains as they tend to fold the other way due to strong winds and end up getting u completely wet.

Aquaplane is somewhat like that, although with dire consequences. In times of heavy rain a normal road can retain a lot of water which can turn it into a hazardous skidpan. When water collects on the road a cushion of water forms between the road and the tyre, this leads to loss of traction and the inability to steer the car. Aquaplaning takes place so fast that there is absolutely nothing you can do. The car will just slide over to once side of the road all of a sudden.

Aquaplane

It is recommended that cars should have a minimum of 4mm tread depth to avoid the chances of aquaplaning. If the car does get aquaplane, stay calm and take your foot off the accelerator, do not touch the brakes or steer the car. As the car slows down the tyres will regain grip and it will be possible to regain control of the vehicle. Never drive too fast during rains as aquaplaning occurs all the more at high speeds.
