If we talk about seating comfort, both middle row seats in Toyota Innova Crysta get the one-touch tumble forward function and leave a good amount of room to get in the back. Three adults can get into its last row here but the seating will be cramped. On the other hand, families will appreciate the second row in Mahindra XUV 700 as the wide cabin and flat floor make it welcoming for three. Getting to the third row is easy in XUV too, due to the one-touch tumble function, there is a generous amount of foot room under the second row. But the under-thigh support is lacking. Whereas the seat base in Kia Carens is angled to provide support and maximised knee room, the front seats are ventilated too. The ride has always been a strong suit of Hector. Sound and vibration levels are kept in check and while it is not the most refined version of the Fiat-sourced engine we have driven, it won’t leave you complaining either. Overtakes in the city are handled with ease and the motor proves to be plenty tractable as well. Plus, the clutch is a bit heavy and will make you regret missing leg day in bumper to bumper traffic (if such a thing exists anymore). And then there is a tendency to stall while applying the throttle after overcoming a minor undulation. On the highway, it manages triple-digit speeds with ease and doesn’t feel tired or out of breath until you are seriously pushing it. Hector offers a very comfortable ride. But increase the speed a bit and it starts to roll. Plus there is a fair bit of side to side movement as well. It takes a while to settle back too, which you will have to get used to. After driving both I chose hector because of easier riding in city traffic, more features and mainly I needed petrol automatic. Tata sales service is as active as govt agencies, and their trim differentiation is pathetic. No cruise control, reverse parking camera in a car with 20L price (XMA variant). Also you won’t get black color unless you are going for top variant.
