Citroen is the latest carmaker to join the trend of offering special Dark Edition models across its lineup. With the Basalt Dark Edition, the French brand aims to strengthen its presence in the sub-4m SUV segment. But how does it stand out from the regular model? Let’s find out as we compare the Basalt Dark Edition against the regular model and highlight their design differences inside out.
The most obvious change on the outside of the Dark Edition is the exclusive Perla Nera black shade, which you will not be able to get with the regular Basalt. In addition, the Citroen badging and exterior elements across it are finished in dark chrome, while gloss black finished bumpers enhance its character. On the regular Basalt, the badging and grille details are finished in chrome, and the black side body cladding adds contrast to whichever paint shade you choose.

From the side, you can also distinguish the Basalt Dark Edition by the 'Dark Edition' badging on the front doors, while both models feature similar dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, apart from the 'Dark Edition' badge on the boot, the overall styling of both models remains similar.
Inside, the Basalt Dark Edition features an all-black cabin theme, whereas the regular model gets a dual-tone white and black interior.

The seat upholstery in the regular Basalt is finished in white, while with the Dark Edition you get black leatherette seat upholstery. Unlike the regular model that features silver accents across the cabin, the Dark Edition stands out with red stitching on the seats and dashboard, along with 'Dark Edition' embroidery on the seat headrests to further set it apart.

While the regular Basalt is offered with both the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine choice, the Basalt Dark Edition is only available with the turbo-petrol unit. The powertrain specifications of both engine options are detailed below.

The Citroen Basalt Dark Edition comes equipped with features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, wireless phone charging, and steering mounted audio controls.
On the safety front, it gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera with parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Over the regular model, the Basalt Dark Edition commands a price premium of up to Rs 23,000. The regular Basalt is priced between Rs 8.32 lakh and Rs 14.08 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Dark Edition costs Rs 12.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the manual gearbox variant and Rs 14.10 lakh (ex-showroom) for the automatic transmission variant.
The Basalt Dark Edition adds a distinct appeal to Citroen's SUV-coupe offering, and from a buyer’s point of view, it serves as an option to stand apart with the exclusivity of dark-themed cosmetic updates. Would you consider buying it? Let us know in the comments below.
