The new edition of the SUV-coupe adds a darker exterior theme and a refreshed cabin, while keeping the proven engine options unchanged.

The Basalt X keeps the familiar coupe-SUV shape and a similar design that makes it look as elegant as the regular model. The difference lies in the new horizontal LED strips on the grille that make it look more sleek and aggressive. It also gets a new Basalt X badge on the tailgate to differentiate it from the regular Basalt. It rides on familiar dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels and keeps the sloping coupe-like stance intact. The additions make the Basalt feel a bit sportier while keeping it stylish at the same time.

Interior And Features

Inside, the Basalt X gets a new black-and-tan cabin theme that feels more premium than the regular Basalt’s lighter finish. The dashboard layout remains familiar with the layered design and central floating display. Visual changes include an ambient lighting and a rear centre armrest with cupholders has been added for extra comfort.

New features include ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, an auto-dimming IRVM, push button start/stop and cruise control that induce a lot of convenience to the passengers. Other features carried over include the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch driver’s display, wireless phone charging pad, and adjustable rear under-thigh support.

Safety kit includes six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, ISOFIX mounts, and rear parking sensors.

Powertrain

The Basalt X continues with the same engines as the regular Basalt. There’s a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (82 PS/115 Nm) with a 5-speed manual, and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit making 110 PS and up to 205 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Rivals

The Basalt X goes up against the Tata Curvv directly. It also serves as a stylish alternative to compact SUVs like the Citroen Aircross, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Volkswagen Taigun

ZigSays…

The Basalt X doesn’t change the formula under the skin, but that’s not really the point here. Citroen is using the X editions to give its models a fresh lease of life with a fresher interior styling and meaningful feature upgrades. For buyers, it means a Basalt that feels more upmarket without stretching the price gap too far. If you like the SUV-coupe shape and want something that looks a bit more exclusive in a market full of familiar names, the Basalt X makes a stronger case than the standard model.
