A blacked-out car seems to be the fashion of the moment! French automaker, Citroen, has now teased the Basalt Dark Edition, which will soon join the growing trend of black-themed special editions in the Indian automotive market lately. While the teaser didn’t give away much, from what we could decipher the Basalt is set to take things in a sinisterous way for sure. Here’s a closer look at what’s been shown.
Before we talk about things in specific, you might want to have a look at the teaser here.
Like most dark editions, this one also starts with an all-black exterior paint. From what we can decipher, it’s likely to carry on with the regular dual-tone alloy wheels, which should give it a dash of contrast.
Also, the badging also seems to be in chrome unlike some Dark Edition vehicles, which have it blacked out for a dapper look. There won’t be any notable changes or tweaks in the overall design or silhouette of the car – as is the case usually for most of these editions.
A brief glimpse of the upholstery in the teaser hints at an all-black cabin theme instead of the black / beige colour scheme found in the standard car.
The Basalt’s Dark edition is also likely to be based on its higher-end variants hence it will be loaded with all the bells and whistles – the topmost of which include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, wireless phone charger and steering mounted audio controls
The safety suite will also be untouched. And with that it will continue with its 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking camera with sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Mechanically, the Citroen Basalt Dark Edition is also expected to retain its existing engine options that come with the regular version. You can check out the specifications of these engine options here:
Engine options |
1.2-litre NA petrol |
1.2-litre turbo petrol |
Power |
82 PS |
110 PS |
Torque |
115 Nm |
Up to 205 Nm |
Transmission |
5-speed manual |
6-speed manual / 6-speed automatic |
The Citroen Basalt in its standard edition is offered in three variants with prices ranging from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom). One can expect the Basalt Dark Edition to command a minor premium over the regular model.
It will continue its rivalry with lower-spec variants of Tata Curvv, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun. It can also be considered as an alternative to some of the sub-4m SUVs considering its price range. Out of these, the Seltos, Creta and Elevate also have their respective dark editions while the Curvv’s is one to be said is in the works.
The introduction of the Dark Edition for the Basalt should help boost sales for the SUV coupe. Would you be buying a Citroen Basalt in its Dark Edition? Let us know in the comments.
