Here’s How The Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 Is Different From Its BS4 Counterpart

Yamaha India recently sent out a teaser of the 2020 FZ 25 on its social media channels, stating that it is coming soon. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the initially-planned April launch timeline might be pushed to May. In the meanwhile, if you’re wondering how different it is from the BS4 model, you’ve come to the right place:

A fresh face:

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 comes with a redesigned headlamp cowl which looks a bit more futuristic than the previous-generation BS4-compliant FZ 25. It houses an LED headlamp with DRLs. We hope the headlight is brighter than the BS4 version as the illumination in the previous-generation bike was quite poor.

While the design of the fuel tank extensions remain unchanged, the bike gets an engine cowl below, which was absent in the BS4 model. The side panels look a little less muscular whereas the tail section appears to be the same. It still retains the same split seat with split grab rail setup. The meaty rear tyre is covered by a tyre hugger, which may not look all that aesthetically pleasing but will definitely be useful in keeping dirt and grime away. The FZS 25 on the other hand gets a windshield and hand guards to give it a more touring-oriented feel. It also comes in more premium colour schemes but apart from these, the bike remains mechanically similar to the standard variant.

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 comes with a side-stand engine cut-off function but apart from this, the rest of the feature list remain unchanged. This includes a full-LCD instrument cluster which shows the mileage and range apart from regular data like speed, tachometer readings, fuel level, odometer and tripmeter readings.

Engine goes green without compromising much on performance:

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 is powered by a 249cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder motor with oil cooler. It churns out 20.8PS at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm at 6000rpm, which is just 0.1PS and 0.1Nm behind the BS4-compliant motor. The engine continues to work alongside a 5-speed transmission. Also, the kerb weight has gone up by just 1kg, so all in all, the real-world performance of the 2020 FZ 25 should be more or less similar to the BS4-compliant version.

No changes in the underpinnings:

While Yamaha hasn’t explicitly revealed details about the underpinnings, it is likely that it has remained unchanged. The front end gets a telescopic fork whereas the rear comes with a monoshock setup. Brakes include the same 282mm front and 220mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS as before. The 17-inch alloys are shod with meaty 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres.

Could command a reasonable premium:

Expect the 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 to cost around Rs 1.40 lakh and the FZS 25 to retail at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom). To give you a perspective, the BS4-compliant version costs Rs 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Unofficial bookings of the motorcycle commenced at select dealerships in February-end itself. However, expect deliveries to commence only at the end of May thanks to the delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.
