Due to the increase in prices of raw material, Tata had to take this step

Tata Motors has recently increased the prices of all its passenger vehicles by up to Rs 12,000 across the country. With the new prices effective immediately, the hike in the prices was made to balance rising input costs, according to official statements from the carmaker.

Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicles business unit, Tata Motors, said, "We have hiked prices of our passenger vehicles by one per cent ranging between Rs 5000 and Rs 12,000 due to rising input costs." He further stated that the increase in the prices of raw materials like zinc and steel was the main cause that prompted the company to take this step.

The price hike has affected prices across the complete model range, starting from the Nano priced at Rs 2.15 lakh, going up to the Aria i.e. priced at Rs 16.3 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). This move has also affected the prices of the Tiago hatchback (Rs 3.72 lakh for the petrol and Rs 4.42 lakh for the oil burner), which is supposed to be the domestic automaker's popular offering.

Tata is not the only carmaker that has hiked prices this year. Mahindra and Mahindra have also increased prices across its passenger as well as commercial vehicles range by up to 1 per cent from this month, while Hyundai India and Maruti Suzuki too, hiked prices by up to Rs 20,000 approximately, a couple of months back this year across several models.
