While the manufacturer is busy cooking up the all-new Grand i10 for next year, the small hatch gets a very important update

Base-spec versions of the Grand i10 simply didn’t appeal as much to us folks at ZigWheels. While they were competitively priced and came with an acceptable level of kit, they skimped out a bit on safety tech. For instance, the Era version got a single driver’s airbag, whereas ABS was skipped altogether.

Hyundai made small amends about five months ago when it equipped the mid-spec Sportz variant with anti-lock brakes with EBD. Now though, the manufacturer has decided to go all in, and offer all variants with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. This is in light of the new crash test safety norms that kick in next year.

With the aforementioned safety tech offered as standard, the Grand i10 stands shoulder to shoulder with rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Ignis, and the Ford Figo. This also (thankfully) means that those on a budget need not miss out on safety tech anymore. That said, prices for the Era and the Magna variants have been hiked accordingly as well. Save for the added safety features, the Grand i10 remains unchanged. You continue to get the option of a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.2-litre diesel, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is available only with the petrol motor, in the mid-spec Magna and Sportz variants.
