Features a BS6-compliant engine with a 5-speed transmission

  • Despite the updates, the bike is 3kg lighter than before.
  • Gets longer travel suspension too.
  • Produces less power and torque than the BS4 model.
  • Hero MotoCorp has taken the wraps off the BS6-compliant Super Splendor which is likely to hit showrooms by April 2020. It’ll replace the Super Splendor IBS which currently retails at Rs 61,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Considering the updated engine and transmission along with its mechanical changes, we expect the bike to command a premium of around Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 over the BS4 model. Hero will offer the bike in two variants: drum and disc.

Engine wise, the 124.7cc single-cylinder motor has been updated with fuel-injection and a larger cat-con for lower tailpipe emissions. The result is a minor drop in output figures: 10.84PS at 7,500rpm and 10.6Nm at 6,000rpm. In comparison, the BS4 model puts out 11.28PS and 11Nm at the same revs.

The Super Splendor’s saving grace comes in the form of an extra cog. Yes, it now features a 5-speed transmission which should extract better fuel-efficiency when coupled with i3S technology.

The 2020 Super Splendor also comes with longer suspension travel -- 14 per cent up front and 9 per cent at the rear -- despite using the same telescopic fork and twin shock absorber setup. In terms of braking, you now get the option of a disc/drum brake at the front. The rear, on the other hand, retains a 130mm drum unit. Integrated braking system (IBS) comes as standard. That’s about all there is to the new Super Splendor.

Once launched, it’ll take on the Honda CB Shine and Yamaha Saluto which are yet to be updated to comply with BS6 regulations.
