  • It will employ a BS6 1.5-litre CRDI diesel engine that develops 115PS and 250Nm.
  • The Elantra CRDI will be offered with a 6-speed manual and torque converter.
  • The base-spec S variant has been discontinued.

Hyundai India is all set to launch the BS6-compliant Elantra diesel in the coming months. Just ahead of its launch, the specifications and variants of the upcoming sedan have been revealed by the official brochure. Further, the Korean manufacturer has silently discontinued the base-spec ‘S’ variant.

The BS6-compliant Hyundai Elantra diesel will be offered in two variants: SX and SX(O). The SX variant will be offered with a manual gearbox while the SX(O) variant will be offered with an automatic unit only.

The BS6-compliant Elantra will utilise the 1.5-litre CRDI engine that’s also found under the hood of the recently launched 2020 Creta and Kia Seltos. It develops an identical 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter.

The Elantra’s BS6-compliant unit, though cleaner, is a tad less powerful than the older 1.6-litre CRDI motor found in the pre-facelift model. Here’s a detailed comparison:

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra Diesel is expected to hit showrooms after the coronavirus pandemic situation has calmed down. Expect the 2020 Hyundai Elantra diesel to cost Rs 1 lakh more than the petrol model, which starts from Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the Hyundai Elantra will be the only model with a diesel engine in its segment as Honda has recently discontinued the Civic diesel and the 2020 Skoda Octavia will be offered with a petrol engine only.
