M5 Key Highlights
Features: BMW has bestowed the M5 with a slew of features, namely new multifunction seats with an illuminated M logo, multicolour ambient lighting, dual screen setup, comprising a 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and an 18-speaker, 655 Watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Also on offer is adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, rear-wheel steering, multiple driving modes, a heads-up display, and ADAS with standard features including rear collision warning and lane departure warning with assistance.
Engine: Powering the new BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with an 18.6 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. This powertrain is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a fully variable and rear-wheel biassed all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The power output of the engine stands at 585 PS and 750 Nm, while the electric motor produces 197 PS and 280 Nm. The engine and motor together delivers a power output of a staggering 727 PS and 1,000 Nm. In terms of performance, the new M5 can go from standstill to 100 kmph in a claimed 3.5 seconds, while zero to 200 kmph can be achieved in 10.9 seconds. It tops out at 250 kmph but it can be increased to 305 kmph with an M Driver’s package, which is an optional extra. Plus, the new M5 can be driven for 69 km (WLTP) at a maximum speed of 140 kmph in an EV-only mode.
Rivals: Currently, the new BMW M5 does not have direct rivals in India, however, its closest competitor is the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, which costs Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom).
