It was a long-time coming, but reigning 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has finally resigned with Mercedes on a one-year deal for the 2021 Formula One season. This means that the 2021 grid is finally complete. Also, Alpha Tauri, Mercedes and Williams will launch their 2021 challengers on February 19, March 2, and March 3.
F3 Asia
The double-header second and third round of the 2021 F3 Asian Championship, held at the Yas Marina circuit, Abu Dhabi saw great success for Mumbai Falcons. Jehan Daruvala took two wins and a second place in Round 2 and capped off the third round with a win and a second place finish. While his teammate Kush Maini had a difficult Round 2, the Indian driver finally bagged points finishes for Round 3.
All this leaves Jehan Daruvala 2nd In the drivers’ standings, just 10 points behind Pierre-Louis Chovet. Kush Maini’s points finishes put him 13th overall. A decent haul of points propelled Mumbai Falcons to second in the teams’ standings, with only two more rounds to go.
WEC
Nearly two months after Peugeot unveiled the technical specifications of its upcoming LMH hypercar, the French marque has finally unveiled its driver lineup for the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship. The lineup consists of ex-F1 drivers Kevin Magnussen, Jean Eric Vergne and Paul di Resta, as well as Loïc Duval, Mikkel Jensen and Gustavo Menezes. James Rossiter will be the team’s reserve/simulator driver. It’s yet to be decided as to how the drivers will lineup across the two Peugeot hybrid hypercars.
Indian motorsport
The last seven days also had some racing action back home in the form of the KMS 50 Grand Prix at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. Anindith Reddy and Dhruv Mohite made it a 1-2 finish for Rayo Racing. The two ran VW Motorsport India cars for the 50 lap combined Indian Touring Car (ITC) and Super Stock race.
MotoGP
It didn't come as a surprise, but Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) confirmed their commitment to the MotoGP world championship till the end of the 2026 season. This comes after its satellite squad, LCR Honda, KTM and Ducati confirmed they will stay in MotoGP until 2026. While HRC already has Pol Espargaro confirmed to start the season, 8-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez’ participation for the season opener remains in doubt. The Spanish rider continues to recover from a third operation in his right arm.
