Toyota has revealed the new Urban Cruiser Ebella in India. The car is a rebadged version of the Maruti e Vitara, and hence both cars share their platform, battery packs, and features. What’s different is their visual appearance. The new Urban Cruiser Ebella slots into the ever-growing compact electric SUV segment but stands out with its distinctive styling, feature-loaded cabin, two battery pack options and a long list of features.
Let’s take a look at everything that the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella has to offer.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is the rebadged version of the Maruti e Vitara, and hence it is safe to say that the overall silhouette is very similar to those of the e Vitara. Upfront, Toyota has worked a lot to distinguish it from Maruti’s counterpart, the design has been kept futuristic with a chunky bumper with air dams that give it some much-needed muscle, body claddings, gloss black grille, faux skid plate, LED headlamps paired with pixel-like LED DRLs.
At the side, the electric SUV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels, has body claddings, a shark fin antenna, and large windows. The overall profile is very similar to the Maruti e Vitara.
Coming at the rear, the Urban Cruiser Ebella has a coupe-like stance with sharp body lines and an integrated rear spoiler. Adding to the visual appeal here is a bulky rear bumper, and it also gets connected LED tail lamps, as seen in the global model.
The interior design of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is similar to what we have seen on the Maruti e Vitara. The cabin of the Urban Cruiser Ebella comes finished in a black and tan colour theme along with gloss black inserts. The cabin gets physical buttons for all important controls, making it easy and convenient to use.
The dashboard’s design looks very subtle yet futuristic; it is dominated by a dual-screen setup and has vertical AC vents. What’s also new here is a twin-spoke steering wheel with the Toyota logo. The centre console uses a gear-selector knob, which helps in reducing the visual bulk of the interior. All controls are very ergonomically placed, making them easy to operate.
On the rear seats, occupants get a spacious experience, thanks to the large windows, a fixed glass roof, and a sliding and reclining function that enhances comfort.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella has been loaded with a decent amount of features. Some highlights on the inside include a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment with wireless connectivity, a fixed glass roof, ventilated front seats, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat, a JBL sound system, ambient lighting, a PM2.5 cabin air filter, ride-by-wire technology, and multiple drive modes.
In terms of safety, the Urban Cruiser Ebella comes equipped with 7 airbags and a Level-2 ADAS suite with front and rear blind-spot alerts. It also gets a 360-degree camera with front and rear sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The e Vitara had scored a perfect 5-star safety rating at Bharat-NCAP, and a 4-star safety rating at Euro-NCAP. We expect the same score to be carried over to the Urban Cruiser Ebella as well.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella will be offered with two battery pack options in India, each with a single electric motor. The international spec does come with an all-wheel-drive setup, but the Indian model is limited to a front-wheel drive drivetrain. The car supports both AC and DC fast charging.

In the international market, it is also offered with a two-motor setup with an AWD system as an option.
As for the performance, ride and handling part, we have already driven the Maruti e Vitara, which has the same powertrain configurations. You can read it here.
Toyota will be launching the Urban Cruiser Ebella in the next few week, with prices expected to start from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be offered in three variants, called E1, E2 and E3 respectively. The former will only be available with a 49kWh battery option, while the E2 and E3 will get the sole option of the 61kWh battery pack.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is entering the compact electric SUV segment and will face strong competition from multiple cars. Starting with the Maruti e Vitara, the car it resembles the most. Established names like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, VinFast VF6 and VF7, MG Windsor EV, and the MG ZS EV will also put tough fight for the Urban Cruiser Ebella, giving customers a wide range of options to choose from in the highly competitive segment.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella has been one of Toyota’s most anticipated models in India, as it marks Toyota’s entry into the electric SUV segment. Toyota has smartly crafted the car to attract multiple buyers. Though the features, powertrain, and dimensions are the same as the Maruti e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser Ebella has a remarkably smarter and more elegant appearance. It might miss out on some modern features that the rivals offer, but it carries with it Toyota’s legacy of reliability.
