Toyota’s First EV For India: Urban Cruiser EV Is Coming; This Is What The Teaser Shows…

Toyota is all set to launch its first-ever EV in India, called the Urban Cruiser EV, later this month, and to get the buzz going, the carmaker has given us our first glimpse into its next product. Let’s take a look at what we know so far:

2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: What The Teaser Reveals

Our first look at the Urban Cruiser EV shows us how the front end, side profile and the front fender could look like. Being based closely on the upcoming Maruti e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser EV will also get some similar design elements. We can also see that it will get a front fender-mounted charging flap, which could be convenient when charging in tight spaces.

About The 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

First revealed as the Toyota Urban BEV Concept at the Auto Expo 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV is Toyota’s take on the Maruti e Vitara. Globally, it follows a similar design philosophy as other Toyota models, with a ‘Hammerhead’ front fascia with slim headlamps and a simple-looking bumper with vertical cuts on either side. 

Move on to the side angle, and it looks almost identical to the e Vitara, with the only major change being the BEV badge on the charging port flap. It continues with a muscular profile, 19-inch alloys, thick cladding and a rear door handle mounted behind the window to mimic a sportier ‘two-door’ look. 

At the rear too, it remains identical to the e Vitara, with a connected taillamp cluster and a bumper fully draped in black cladding. The only difference here is the reworked taillamp detailing and the badges.

Inside, the theme continues with an upright dashboard, a twin-screen setup and gloss black inserts on the centre console. However, the India-spec Urban Cruiser EV is expected to get an all-black theme for the cabin for a sportier experience. 

In terms of features, it could be equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charger, fixed glass roof, 10-way powered driver seat, drive modes and a JBL sound system.

Safety-wise, it is likely to get a Level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, tyre pressure monitoring system and front and rear parking sensors.

2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Powertrain

Underneath, the Urban Cruiser EV could be offered with two battery packs of 49 kWh and 61 kWh sizes. While the UK-spec car also gets an all-wheel drive option with the latter, it is unlikely to debut in India.

2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Launch Date, Price And Rivals

Toyota has confirmed that it will unveil the India-spec Urban Cruiser EV on January 20, while a launch is expected in February. In terms of pricing, it is likely to sit in the range of Rs 16 lakh to Rs 22 lakh(ex-showroom).

When on sale, it will rival cars like the Maruti e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, VinFast VF7 and MG ZS EV.

The Urban Cruiser EV truly completes Toyota’s India lineup with petrol, mild-hybrid, strong-hybrid, CNG, diesel and now electric fuel options available with products across the range.
