Now that Toyota has unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella for India, here is a closer look at the brand’s first-ever EV for India in 12 real-life images:
Starting off from the front-end, we get to see Toyota’s ‘Hammerhead’ styling, which aligns it with the carmaker’s latest global design philosophy.
You have the slim LED headlamp cluster, with a blanked-off grille in the middle.
Lower down as well, it remains simple and features a small lower air dam, along with vertical air vents on either side of the bumper to improve airflow.
Move on towards the side profile, and it looks near-identical to the Maruti e Vitara, which it shares its underpinnings with and gets a boxy design.
You also get to see 18-inch alloy wheels with an aero-insert and thick wheel arch cladding.
Keen-eyed readers will also note the rear door handle which has been placed behind the rear window to mimic a sportier ‘two-door’ look.
Interestingly, the Urban Cruiser Ebella gets its charging port flap placed on the front fender which also gets a ‘BEV’ badge signalling its green intentions.
Look at the Urban Cruiser Ebella from behind, and you could easily mistake it for the e Vitara as it remains exactly the same except for reworked detailing for the connected LED taillamp cluster and Toyota badging.
It continues with the minimalist design theme and also gets a rear bumper draped in black cladding for added road presence.
Climb inside, and the Urban Cruiser Ebella opts for a conventional and familiar feel instead of a radical and futuristic design. The dashboard takes an upright stance with a twin-screen layout for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster taking centre stage.
You also get to see a new two-spoke steering wheel along with a gloss-black centre console with a rotary gear-shift for a premium feel.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella gets slim-looking but heavily bolstered front seats which offer good amount of support. The interior is finished in a dual-tone black-tan colour scheme.
You also get to see a fixed glass roof above the front seats, which help give the interior a bright and airy feel.
At the rear as well, it maintains a simple and elegant theme all around. Toyota has equipped the Urban Cruiser Ebella with 40:20:40 split folding seats which give it a lot of flexibility when it comes to carrying oddly-shaped luggage.
This unique split-layout also means that each rear passenger can slide and recline their seat individually for maximum comfort. It also has two USB Type-C ports and rear AC vents as well, both of which add comfort and convenience as well.
Underneath, the Urban Cruiser Ebella gets 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options. Notably, while globally it is also offered with an all-wheel drive system, the India-spec car remains front-wheel drive only. Here are the detailed specifications of the Urban Cruiser Ebella:

Toyota is expected to launch the Urban Cruiser Ebella starting from a price of Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) sometime next month.
When launched, it will go up against other EVs like the Maruti e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, VinFast VF6 and VF7, MG Windsor EV and ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6.
With the Urban Cruiser Ebella in the fray, Toyota is aiming for a piece of the pie amongst EVs which was a space previously unexplored by the brand. And with the right size, a more familiar feel and toned-down personality it could just turn out to be popular. However, we feel that a more differentiated design from the e Vitara would have been welcome for more distinction.
