Gets 650cc performance with a timeless Classic styling

Spy shots of plenty of upcoming Royal Enfield bikes keep surfacing on the Internet, and this time around, it's the Royal Enfield Classic 650 that's been spied in our country.

The Classic 650 is the bigger sibling of the beloved retro bike, the Classic 350, but is based on the same platform as the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and Super Meteor 650. It will be powered by the same 648cc, air/oil-cooled BS6.2-compliant engine, which churns out 47PS and 52Nm in the 650 twins, but expect the bike maker to tune this engine slightly to suit the Classic’s demeanour.

Now in terms of design, it looks quite like a bigger avatar of the Classic 350. It gets a similar retro roadster design language with very familiar headlight nacelle, tear-drop-shaped fuel tank and split-seat setup. The ergonomics of the bike seem similar to its smaller sibling as well – mid rise handlebar and mid-set footpegs offering an upright riding posture. The pea shooter exhaust, too, is similar to that of the Classic 350.

While the headlight seems to be an LED unit, the turn indicators are halogen lamps. We believe this was done to keep the pricing of the Classic competitive. And we believe that the bike gets a telescopic fork instead of a USD fork like the one featured on Super Meteor 650 for the same reason.

The roadster seems to be running on a 19/18 spoke wheel setup – same as the Classic 350 – but of course with fatter tyres. In terms of braking, the bike gets discs on both ends, and dual channel ABS is expected to be standard.

Summing up, we expect the Royal Enfield Classic 650 to debut sometime in early 2024 with an expected price tag of around Rs 3.2 lakh, ex-showroom. The Classic could prove to be the perfect cash cow for Royal Enfield in the 650cc segment, and here’s why we think so.
