KTM 390 Range Recalled, But Here’s Why Indian Owners Need Not Worry

KTM has recalled some of the bikes in the 390 range that are manufactured after 2024, in the international markets. These include the KTM Duke 390, 390 Enduro R, 390 SMC R, and 390 Adventure X and R. The bikes have been recalled to rectify the engine stalling issue at low RPM.

The solution for this is rather simple, at least that’s what KTM says – a new software update for the ECU (engine control unit). KTM will contact owners of the affected bikes, and install the software update at authorised service centres, free of cost. 

That said, this only affects the bikes that were sold in foreign markets, and not in India. KTM owners in India can breathe a sigh of relief since this issue doesn’t plague Indian models.

All the bikes in the 390 range are made in India, including those sold internationally. However, as seen on multiple KTM ownership forums, bikes sold in different markets have different softwares/software versions – maybe to comply with regional laws and mandates. This probably explains why the Indian bikes won’t need the software update that the other bikes need, as they aren’t affected in the first place.
