The first single-cylinder engine from Ducati has a capacity of 659cc and is capable of revving up to 10,250rpm!

A single-cylinder from Ducati?! Yes, you heard it right. Ducati just unveiled its latest creation, the Superquadro Mono, a 659cc single-cylinder engine. It is the first single-cylinder engine from the Bologna-based manufacturer in 30 years since the Supermono 550.

Okay, first let’s look at the numbers that’ll excite anyone: 77.5PS at 9,750rpm (84.5PS at 9,500rpm with Termignoni racing exhaust), 63Nm at 8,050rpm. It has a bore and stroke of 116 x 62.4mm and compression ratio of 13.1:1. Ducati claims that the Superquadro Mono can rev up to a maximum of 10,250rpm!

It gets the 116mm diameter piston, the combustion chamber’s shape, 46.8mm diameter titanium intake valves, 38.2mm steel exhaust valves from the 1299 Panigale and the Desmodromic system from its 1285cc V-twin engine. The bikes on which the engine will be used will come with a ride-by-wire system and three Power modes: High, Medium and Low.

The engine will come paired to a six-speed gearbox and can be equipped with ‘Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down’. The Superquadro Mono will be used in a bike Ducati is about to unveil on November 2. So, the excitement is real for the return of a Ducati single in a week’s time.
