An off-roader SUV, likely to get 4x4 or AWD.
A mass-market MPV with 7 seats would be a first for Hyundai in India
Local manufacturing for both models
During the Annual Investor Day Summit today, Hyundai revealed its plan for two key products. These include an off-roader SUV and a mass-market MPV made specifically for the Indian market.
While further details have not been confirmed, let’s take a look at what the two models could be like:
Expected Launch: 2027 to 2029
The first of the two models has been revealed to be an off-road-focused SUV. While other details are bleak at this moment, it could be placed to take on other SUVs like the Maruti Jimny or Mahindra Thar Roxx.
However, there is also a possibility that it will be positioned higher up in the Hyundai line-up to go against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster . Given the enhanced focus on the off-road capabilities, Hyundai is likely to equip it with an AWD system, since Hyundai does not have a 4x4 in its portfolio as of now, globally. Otherwise, multiple powertrains are likely to be offered as well.
Hyundai has not revealed the launch timeline yet, although considering that the SUV is in early stages of development, we can expect it to launch sometime between 2027 to 2029. While this SUV will carry the Hyundai badge, Genesis is also preparing for a foray into the Indian market!

Expected Launch: 2027 to 2029
The second model that Hyundai is developing will be a mass-market MPV with three rows of seating. For this model as well, the details have not been shared, but given that Hyundai is calling it ‘Mobility For All’, we can safely assume that it will be placed below the Rs 20 lakh price bracket.
There is a possibility for the MPV to share underpinnings with the Carens Clavis, which is already on sale under the Kia brand umbrella. Besides this, it could also get multiple powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, as well as electric propulsion at a later stage. The mass-market MPV could be targeted in the Maruti Ertiga range or the Toyota Innova Crysta. Launch timelines are also unconfirmed for now, but Hyundai could launch it around 2027 to 2029.

With the off-roader and MPV, Hyundai is attacking uncharted territory for the brand in India till now and with strong incumbents, it is going to be an uphill battle. That said, given its capabilities, we can see both products shaping up to be competitive options in their respective segments. Stay tuned to this space for more details of both products as they are revealed.
