Internationally, this iteration of the Tucson is more than two and a half years old, and is due for a facelift soon

  • Facelifted Hyundai Tucson makes its spy shot debut in Germany.
  • A revised grille, full-width LED light bar up front, and reworked bumpers are the expected cosmetic revisions.
  • Inside, it should get revised colour schemes and upholstery.
  • May continue with existing powertrain options.
  • Could be a while before making its way to India.

Spy shots of the facelifted Hyundai Tucson have surfaced online ahead of its expected debut, which will happen soon. It must be noted that the Tucson hasn’t even completed a year in the Indian market, but internationally, the model on sale is around two and a half years old (blame Covid for its late arrival here). That explains why a refresh coming to the international market makes sense.

So what’s new? From what our eyes could see (through the heavy camouflage), we are happy to report the changes seem minimal. Up front, it gets a revised grille insert and while the headlights and DRL assembly seems to be the same, it could get a full-width LED light bar, a la the new age Hyundais.

The profile remains exactly the same as the current model, including this particular test mule’s wheels. And while the rear is draped in heavy camouflage, we suspect changes to be limited to just the bumpers, which sport dual exhaust tips, with the standout fang-shaped tail lamps being retained.

The interior is yet to be snapped, but from what we have seen with previous Hyundai facelifts, we suspect it to be limited to just the colour scheme and upholstery. Even the feature list should remain identical to the current model, which you can learn more about by checking our detailed in-depth first drive review

Powertrain options for the new Tucson are market-specific, and the SUV gets the choice of petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and even plug-in hybrid options. Currently, the India-specific model gets a 156PS 2-litre petrol and 186PS 2-litre diesel engines paired with a 6-speed automatic and 8-speed automatic, respectively. The diesel engine also gets optional all-wheel drive.

Considering that the new Tucson has not even completed a year in India, we suspect it’d be a while before the facelifted model arrives here. And when it comes, you can expect it to command a premium over the current model that starts from Rs 28.63 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue rivalling the Jeep Compass, VW Tiguan and Citroen C5 Aircross.
