This 450cc Ducati weighs just 109 kg and makes 63.5 PS!

Supermoto as a format is not as popular in India as something like the ADV bike format, which recently boomed. The only Supermoto we ever got in India has always been from Ducati, the Hypermotard. Now, Ducati has taken its Desmo450 platform in a new direction with the 2027 Desmo450 SM, a competition-spec supermoto based on the Desmo450 MX.

Ducati Desmo450 SM: What Is It?

Unveiled at World Ducati Week 2026, the Desmo450 SM is essentially a race-focused supermoto developed from the Desmo450 MX. It is not road legal and has been designed specifically for competition use.

The motorcycle gets a 449.6cc single-cylinder Desmodromic engine producing 63.5 PS and 53.5 Nm. It comes with a five-speed gearbox, slipper clutch and an upshift-only quickshifter. Ducati has also altered the final-drive gearing for the SM, giving it a slightly higher top speed.

The chassis has been heavily revised for supermoto use. It weighs just 109 kg (wet weight without fuel). It gets a sharper steering geometry, fully adjustable Showa suspension and smaller 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels. These are shod with Metzeler Racetec Slick SM tyres.

Race-Spec Hardware

Braking hardware is serious as well, with a 310 mm Galfer front disc paired with a Brembo Stylema radial calliper and a PR15x19 radial master cylinder. The rear gets a 240 mm disc with a Brembo calliper.

The electronics package includes two riding modes, launch control, engine-brake control and four levels of traction control, with the option to switch it off completely. Ducati also offers an optional system that monitors engine wear and recommends maintenance based on how the motorcycle is used.

India Launch & Rivals

Ducati already sells the Desmo450 MX in India, with the motocross bike priced at Rs 17.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

While there is no word yet on whether the Desmo450 SM will make its way here, we do hope Ducati brings the supermoto to India as well. It would certainly add a very different motorcycle to Ducati’s Indian portfolio.

If the Desmo450 SM ever does launch in India, there are currently no direct rivals for it in the country. Internationally, however, its closest competitor is the KTM 450 SMR, another competition-spec 450cc supermoto.
