After a series of teasers and the debut of the production-spec model, Citroen has finally revealed the Basalt in full in India. This SUV coupe will directly take on the upcoming Tata Curvv and will serve as an alternative to compact SUVs on our shores. Fancy one? We've made things easier for you as we provide an in-depth 360-degree look at the Basalt in 10 images.
Up front, the Basalt features a split headlight setup with LED projectors and DRLs, along with chrome inserts on the grille. Additionally, it includes a silver-finished skid plate, and the front design overall maintains familiarity with the C3 Aircross.
Moving to the profile, the Basalt's sloping roofline overall defines its silhouette. It boasts multi-spoke dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels housed within wheel arches that also get some cladding. Additionally, the Basalt features traditional door handles, unlike the flush-fitted ones on the Curvv, and there’s also some side body cladding .
At the rear, the Basalt features simple wraparound LED taillights, similar to the C3 Aircross. Its rear bumper also includes a skid plate, with the boot-lip spoiler design on the tailgate. It has a boot space of 470-litres.
The Basalt can be had in 5 monotone and 2 dual tone shades. The options in the former include Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red. Polar White and Garnet Red hues are available with a grey and black roof, respectively.
Stepping inside, the Basalt's cabin layout mirrors that of the C3 range. The floating infotainment unit is centred on the dashboard, while large air vents at the corners are a signature Citroen design element. Piano black elements along the dashboard are contrasted by silver accents on the AC vents and centre console, and the three-spoke steering wheel completes the front row.
The cabin theme is finished in a white shade, with semi-leatherette seat upholstery. Additionally, all rear passengers get three-point seat belts.
Citroen has given the rear seats a special focus with a 3-step adjustable thigh support, which can be adjusted as per the passener’s requirement.
The Citroen Basalt comes equipped with features such as a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver's display, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a wireless phone charger.
On the safety front, the Basalt gets six airbags (standard), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a reverse parking camera with sensors.
Citroen is offering the Basalt with two engine options: a 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual (190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission (205Nm), and an 82 PS/115 Nm1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, mated to a 5-speed manual only.
The turbocharged petrol unit delivers a claimed fuel economy of 19.5 kmpl for the manual and 18.7 kmpl for the automatic transmission option, while the NA engine offers a claimed mileage of 18 kmpl.
Citroen will announce the prices for the Basalt in the coming weeks, but we expect it to start from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the upcoming Tata Curvv and serve as an alternative to compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun.
